Basic Gameking Hogue stock vs Weatherby Vanguard.

    Folks,

Does anyone have any experience with the difference between the basic Hogue stock on a Howa vs the Weatherby Vanguard stock polymer. Is the Weatherbys forend any stiffer. The Hogues forend in the pillar bedded stock is like warm chewing gum. Thanks, A2

If you have a Vanguard and are considering a new stock, check to see if it's free-floated. All the ones I've looked at are not, and supposedly are "engineered" to have a certain amount of pressure on the barrel to get their moa guarantee. They come with a fairly thin barrel (the garden variety Vanguards I mean) and you might actually make it less accurate even if you put a high quality stock on it that's free floated.

The pressure pad on a stock is,an easy fix. My weatherbys are all free floated by removing that pressure point bump. And it made a world of difference. Just measure height make a note of it and remove.
