Remington can still make a decent rifle!

Last August, I found a 700 in 6.5 creedmoor at a shop I frequent often. I picked it up because it was a decent price and I had been wanting a 700 or 700 clone in 6.5 creedmoor. The fit and finish on it seemed pretty good to me. I ordered a Vortex scope that day and waited for months while it was on backorder.

I grew tired of waiting for the Vortex and ordered a Bushnell DMR2 instead. Got it all mounted it last week and shot it Wednesday.

I was concerned with all the Remington hate that I was going to get a rifle that couldn't shoot for ****.

Turns out the rifle is fine. So Remington can still make a decent product, or maybe I just won the lottery. I am pleased with the rifle AND the DMR2 is an amazing optic especially for what I am into it for.

That's great to hear you got the rifle out and had good results! I'm only getting OK groups with mine, running factory Superformance 120GMX and Full Board 120GMX. Roughly 1.5".

Can I ask you for a photo of your bolt firing pin hole?

Reason is I'm getting cratered primers with factory ammo. And it seems to be on the bigger side.

Also, what position we're you shooting from? Bipod? Front, rear bag?

I'm looking for a starter production rifle in 6.5 CM. I looked at the one you have which has the 22" 5R barrel and considering the 700 PCR or this REMINGTON FIREARMS 700 5-R GEN2 6.5CRDMR 24" pictured below:

I'm also considering the Bergara B14 HMR in 6.5 CM.
Ultimately I want to install the action/barrel into an MDT ESS chassis. Bergara comes with a test target showing the actual groups.

If you're going to do Bergara, you might be better off going with the BMP right off the bat. It's only $300 more than the HMR.



P.S. The Savage-like barrel nut system mentioned isn't used in their current production.

Can I ask you for a photo of your bolt firing pin hole?

Many factory 700 bolts have an excessively large chamfer where the firing pin hole passes through the boltface plane.
The 308 bolt below plainly shows it.



That excessive chamfer allows the cratering you are getting.
The solution is to bush the firing pin hole.

I have always had good luck with Remington’s. But. I can’t justify spending cash on a rifle that “might” shoot well. Remington needs to fix their QC before I participate in future purchases.

You want an edge on the hole, not a chamfer or fillet.

I'm debating if I should get a new bolt. Or leave it as is since this rifle will be used for hunting and will be using factory ammo. Or send it back to Remington, but I don't really want to do that.

You seem to be confusing chapter 11 with chapter 7.
The differences are quite like divorce and death.
You come back from divorce quite easily.
Not so much with death...

I did some more testing and it seems Factory 140gr ELD-M shoot fine in this rifle. Roughly 1" groups. The Factory 120gr GMX Full Boar is consistently 2" groups. Maybe 127LRX from Barnes will be better.
