    New itch; Blaser Tactical

The DTA SRS didn't work out for me, so I'm on the hunt for another cool and extremely accurate rifle.

I see there are different variations such as the LRS1, LRS2, and Tactical 2.

Seems the only real difference are the stocks but I do wonder if anything else is different?

How accurate are the reports of Blaser's barrels running stupidly high round counts, while maintaining sub-moa accuracy? If the exceptional barrel life is true, I may seek one in .300wm otherwise I'll stick to .308

Would like to hear from actual owners.

Seems like most people "love' what every they have..

      "cool "
Are you after something that just looks way different? Those certainly fit the bill :0

      "and extremely accurate rifle"
I know CHF barrels "can be" as accurate as SS, but I have not seen on in person when compared to a other top end barrels. Nor Have I seen one that is as easy to keep clean.

I am assuming that because you were attracted to the DTI and Blaser, you looking for a chassis style rifle.

Have you seen David Tubb's new switch barrel? Maybe even AI AXMC...

        Biggest 2 reasons why I was attracted to the Blaser were;

Exceptional barrel life (apparently 10k+ rounds?)

Exceptional accuracy (1/2 MOA is normal for these rifles?)

Barrels are consumables, I get that. I'm ok with buying barrels but I don't want the downtime associated with buying a blank and scheduling a gunsmith to chamber/fit it to my action.

I never cared for the AI AXMC as it just looks like a plain bolt gun in a chassis.

I'm happy with my rifles with traditional stocks, just thought I'd venture to try something different. Since they're hard to find though, I figured I can take the time to ask questions first.

FWIW - Both those suggestions use pre-fits and are swap caliber

You are correct, but with the Blaser I'd be swapping 1 barrel per every 5 in the AI or DTA (if barrel life is accurate as shared by Blaser)

A lot less down time there.

Sorry but I love to shoot!

Plus the Blaser is just a damn, cool looking rifle with ergonomics to boot!

Anyone around the Bay Area that owns one? Would love to shoot one myself, will provide ammo and cover range cost.

You need to understand those are just claims. If you're shooting the same caliber, the barrel life is going to be the same regardless of platform or barrel type. If you think you're getting 5 times the barrel life, you're in for disappointment. I've not seen any evidence that these barrels last any longer than other barrels of the same quality. Now if you like the rifle, by all means get it. The Blaser is a very accurate rifle and while I'm not a fan of that stock others love them and if you fall in that camp, I think you'll be quite happy. This isn't to discourage you but to help you have a realistic expectation as far as barrel life is concerned.

Hopefully discogodfather will be along shortly, as he seems to know a bit about Blasers.

Did you catch the thread where he rescued a Blaser he found on GB?? Very cool.

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

Is that based on real experience with European CHF barrels?

No that is based on 6 shot out barrels on a 300wm!

What makes you think a European barrel is any better or lasts any longer than any other barrel?

Because they said they are? Because they are cold hammer forged?

I actually shoot...A LOT...not sit around posting about shooting!

Not sure where CHF came into play, but Blaser's barrels are hardened.

Apparently, gunsmiths learned the hard way when trying to thread these barrels. Their tips were being rounded off, even their carbide or cobalt tool tips couldn't cut it.

Anyway, I'm like you brother...love to shoot a lot and that's what I'm aiming for (pun intended) with a Blaser rifle.

Except not the items you're talking about. Sounds like I've shot as many rounds through a .300 winmag Blaser as you have.
