Ring suggestions ruger American

Hi was wondering what rings would give me the lowest height on an American 308 with a vortex diamondback 40mm lens. 1 inch tube. Looking at zee signature but idk if I need the adjustment due to bdc reticle?

You shouldn't need any kind of adjustment. I know people like the Zee rings but I have had steel rings scratch my scope tube before and will never buy any again, so I would look at an aluminum option. Anything ring with a "low" option should do the trick. For low profile, simple, and robust rings that don't break the bank I really like the Warne Maxima Rings.

Warne website calculator shows that for the tube and lens a medium woukdneirk but has space underneath? Lows are for 30 something mm. Looking for as close fitting as I can due to stock cheek height. Those are also steel rings?

Here is what a set of low Maxima rings on a Ruger American Rimfire looks like because this is as close as I have ever owned to a standard American. The base is the factory one which came from Ruger. The tube on the scope is 1" and the objective lens is 40mm. I did some research and looks like you are right, the Maximas are steel. As a whole I do prefer aluminum but that is on more high value set ups.
