    ??? Choate Stocks ???

Centerfire Rifles - Manually Operated is my go-to forum.

I read it much more than any other.

I do not recall a recommendation of a Choate stock for a custom build or as an improved replacement for an OEM stock.

    Why?

What is your opinion (opinions based upon reading and/or hands-on experience) of Choate stocks?

I put one with a pistol grip on my Vang Comp 870. I love it. great recoil pad & decent fit to receiver (not perfect).

I haven't really though about CHOATE in so long. They were good way back when. Used to have a couple Mini-14 stocks and a 10/22 stock I think... I wasn't even sure they were around any more, but I saw they are still alive the other night on my Mossberg 930... it says CHOATE on the end cap. So they make the extension tubes for Mossberg.

I have their Varmint stock on my Savage, which I’ve had for several years, and love it. I’m sure others will chime in with their thoughts but I have no complaints. It’s heavy and rock solid, which is what I wanted, and replaced the cheap & flimsy OEM stock the Savage had originally.

I can definitely say the Choate made the gun a better shooter.

I don't think they've kept up with the market. That and they're on the cheap end. People will pay a bit more money to get something of better quality.

They are fine. Solid built and heavy. Great for a target or varmint rifle. I have one on a rifle now and have owned a handful in the past. I prefer HS Precision stocks though.
