    REMINGTON 783 SYNTHETIC HEAVY BARREL

Looks like a cool carbine, wouldn't mind having one in 300 Blk.

If they stuck that in a chassis to make it look like an AR and sold it for around $650 street price, the unwashed masses would suck it up...

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
      Most work performed while-you-wait.

I think you are right and add some more barrel options, but I want one in 300 Blk just the way it is at half that price and maybe a 223 too.

If you have an existing 700 or 7 Advanced Armament has 300 Blackout barrels on sale a couple times a year for $99.95 and $129.95.
They come threaded for a muzzlebrake, silencer, oil filter, fuel filter if your state allows it.
They list the 300 Blackout but it's not in stock anywhere.

For 308, what would be performance difference compared to my older 700V with 26" barrel?

I don't just my old 660 and it's staying the way it is. I thought about one of these https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...CT+300+BLK+OUT or a Ruger Ranch, but I like the 783 I have one in 308. No plans for muzzle devices since I'm in CA, just like the 300 Blk.

It would fit into tighter spaces and velocity would be quite a bit less than your 26" barrel, but it would be pretty easy to replace the short barrel with a 26" Criterion barrel and looks like this has tactical bolt handle for the guys wanting to build a tactical rifle.

Here's an article about using the 783 for a PRS rifle. http://mysticprecision.com/2016/01/r...ag-fed-rifles/

So getting to the meat and potatoes of someone who knows and gets there paws dirty every day on such items, how does the 783 stacks-up against the
modern day low cost hunting rifle every maker seems to be putting out?
I'm interested in how it compares to 710/770, that seemed to flop.

No, I was wondering what Randall's thoughts are on it.
He's one of a handful here on CG's that's qualified to answer.

                              About half the effective range.
                              A 16" barreled 308 is a 400yd gun at best.
The barrel length loss really hurts you in the wind and the wind starts to become a serious issue beyond 400yds.
