    The 308 pushes a 110 at 3400 FPS and the 243 pushes a 55 at 4000 fps.

243 has less recoil, higher velocity, shoots flatter and costs less to reload than 308.
Besides that, they are about the same.

That's why I said 52 grain bullets because they are 3.2 inches flatter. And if you use factory Hornady ammo at 4450 FPS with the 35 grain bullets it's even better.
The 204 is 400 FPS slower with a lower BC bullet and isn't flatter shooting.
I use 40 gr was in my 220 Swift and wonder to which 52 gr bullet you are referring?

Probably the Hornady 52 A-Max or Sierra 52 MatchKing. Those are often used by NRA Highpower AR-15 shooters on the 100 or 200 yard line.

They are both boat tail designs with decent ballistic coefficient.

You can use just about any caliber you want now a days for a kill on small pests. Reasonably priced range finders, ballistic calculators, wind readers, barometric devises make medium and long range shooting much easier today. Every year prices and the quality of equipment improve. I use to rely on my dope card, Kentucky windage, brush & grass movement and my reliable wet finger suck into the air.
But - If you want to see little critters literally explode or fly multiple feet into the air, Velocity++++ and ballistic type tips are a necessity.

I just re-read this and it sounds like I'm a Sick Mother FCKer. AHHHH Welllll - sounds about right - HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Don't sleep on the .204. Shooting mine has converted several .22-250 owners to the caliber.

Out to 300 or even 350 yards the .204 is as explosive on ground squirrels as the .22-250 with less recoil, less muzzle blast, and less powder used. Beyond that the .22-250 pulls away. For super long shots I prefer a .243/6mm with 87gr VMAX.

I'm an obsessive squirrel blaster and I normally bring 2-3 rifles out.
-.17 HMR for close range pop-ups.
-.204 for majority of shooting. 100 to 300 yards or so.
                              -6mm CM for 300+
