Basic question, how/why does loading a bipod help

Absolutely not questioning the concept, i just like to understand how things work.

Is it that the rifle is pressed more firmly into the shoulder and this helps manage recoil, or is there an accuracy advantage?

Berate as noob if it helps.

      As stated by diver, spotting.

This is the main reason why I prefer my Atlas bipod; easy to pre-load.

if you ever shoot a short time high pressure stage where your required to deploy and retract your bipod a couple of times youll see why most run harris.
plus you can buy pass adapters and run atlas feet on the harris.

as far as loading a bipod diver covered it...IMHO easiest way to find what works best for you is to lay behind the rifle and look at an object(the smaller the better)on higher magnification at 500+yds(the farther the better)and play with different loading pressures and watch how your reticle reacts.

I only own 4 bi-pods and I rarely if ever use them even for hunting.
Consistency is what makes a rifle group and anything you can do to be more consistent will help.
I don't shoot enough shots over a bi-pod to know the answer but do whatever you can to keep all your shots consistent and your halfway there.
