    1892 Winchester take-down .44-40

This one shoots great, though I haven't shot it in a long time. I thinks it's from 1906. A '92 Winchester .44 with a lot of special features. They are, shotgun butt, pistol grip with cap, folding tang and folding rear barrel sights, round barrel, and it's a takedown. The round barrel is far less common on rifles but might not be a custom feature. This is one of those guns that just feels perfect, to me anyway.

Very nice. You realize that the 1892 Model is celebrating its 125 birthday this year?

        That's a nice rifle. I'm a big fan of the model 92
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
        Happiness is a warm gun.

              Very nice indeed!
Close up on the rear barrel sight, I can't make out what it is?
Do you have the correct DOM?

And have you submitted this one to Michael for his '92 survey?

Great looking rifle. Would love to own an older '92. One of these days.

I just checked and the gun was made in 1904. I assumed the rear sight was original. Let me know if you think differently. It definitely needs to be able to flip down to use the tang sight. I'll check out the guy doing the 92 survey. Hey, this picture looks huge to me. Don't know how that happened.

The picture huge? Nawww, only takes two minutes to scroll across.
Both those rear sights are special order. I'll see if I can find a model number for the rear barrel sight.
Michael will want detailed pics of certain areas of the rifle. He should be able to tell you what a Cody letter will have, like how it left the factory. "Maybe" being a special order, who and/or where it was shipped to.
Is that figure stamped or carved on the rear of the buttstock? Looks like it might be a brand?

I will write him tomorrow. Maybe take an extra picture or two. That is in fact a cattle brand in the stock. Looks like it was done with a small brand made from wire. It's not carved in the wood. Someone looked up the brand for me and turns out it was from a ranch which was about three hours from where I'm sitting right now. Here's the rifle put together along with my Browning B92 .44 Magnum. It's a little smoother than the Winchester, if that's even possible.

I think that rear sight is a King No.7 semi buckhorn.
I have a Remington #4 take down .22, with a brand on the buttstock. I've looked at hundreds of registered brands, but haven't found anything close.
It would be pretty cool if Michael could find the shipping info in the Cody info, that ties that rifle, to that ranch. That would be a "must have" Cody Letter!
