Need To Identify This Old Rifle?

Family friend inherited this rifle from his Dad. It's a .270. Lots of symbols on it, but didn't find a solid answer on age or maker online. The Scope is obvious, but not sure if it is related to the gun.

The characters on the gun are as follows:

    B367
    367
    P.V
    ELG
    (FN)
    Cal .270

    S (w/ a star on top)
    Chromium Vanadium Steel
Whiteline (On the rubber butt of the gun)

Your pics don't show. If you are trying to use Photobucket....don't.

The FN is, well......an FN symbol, probably a commercial Mauser made by FN.

I believe the "S" with a star is a Belgian proof mark. But I may be wrong.

Pics would be lovely. You friend may have inherited a fine rifle.

Yeah I read the ELG means Belgium too.

FN.....Fabrique Nationale.............Commercial Mauser 98 action. Cal .270 is self explanatory.

All that crap stamped on left of barrel and receiver ring. Are Belgian "Proof Marks".

          Nice rifle

Thanks! Doing some reading up on them now.

Probably no way to figure a year on it though huh?

My father-in-law inherited a commercial FN in .270 that dates to the 1950s. We know this because we know when his uncle bought it.

.270 not good for deer? I presume you're kidding the OP.
The two most popular big-game cartridges among hunters are the .270 and .30-06. They both go way back.

.270 is perfect for deer...in my experience it's not too bad on elk either.

270 will do everything an 06 will do short of grizzley but in a pinch it would work just not the best choice.
