    Getting a .308 Ahshbury tommorrow.

    Hey All,

Been waiting for the great super steal but I think I' am gonna jump on this 24" Savage Ashbury in .308 for $999.97 before the $150 rebate and be done with the searching and comparing. Slap my new Zeiss 5-25x50 Conquest HD5 RZ1000 scope on it and be done. . Well I will need to replace the stock but :<(.... You know you're never truly finished building a platform HAHA.

    what a steal. get it.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Great rifle. I changed out rear stock to the Luth AR fully adjustable stable Carbine stock

          Ashbury

          Hey,

Yeah first thing I did was get a magpul PRS. I was going to get the luth but the buttpad attachment to the stock looks a bit flimsy to me though probably just a misconception on my part. I have the Nikon M-233XR + 20 MOA mount and Zeiss scope I' am just waiting on the rifle and the stock to come.

Taking the Ashbury to my gunsmith next week after picking it up to have the rings lapped and scope installed. I' am also going to have him go over the rifle to make sure no issues pop up while it's there. Might as well right? not having any stuff done that will be fixed with normal break in though 'tuned" never understood why people did that honestly.

Anyone know a good hard rifle with pluckable foam case for it? Would like to be able to store it folded which is making it tough to find one deep enough in Plano.

You also need a rifle length buffer tube for that stock, right?

BTW you can get the tools to lap the scope rings yourself for < $100. Wheeler Engineering has a set iirc. Vaughn Precision shows you how to do it in a youtube.

If you stay with Carbine stock you don’t need anything because folding mech adds right amount of length

On PRS. The new ones are better than the Luth but you have to change to rifle type tube

                Ashbury

                Hey,

Yeah if I know I need something done right I will pay to have it done not known for my eye to detail and mechanical aptitude . Remember I got this to go out to 1000 yards so even minor fitting glitches can cause huge issues.

As for the tube didn't hear anything about needing a new one but I will find out soon as it comes so no biggie. Couple local AR shops close to me where I can grab one up. Planning on putting the old stock on my regular AR so might need a new tube for that too as I think the one on my AR is commercial carbine.

Really looking for a hard case for it think I'll troll the RPR forums.

P.S. As a side note this is what the sales page says about the tube. Since it comes with a CTR I' am thinking I'm good.

I visited the Big City where there was a gun shop that had almost everything. They had Weatherby AND Savage GRS rifles, they had Savage BA Stealths, and the old and new Savage Ashleys, 3 different Tikka models, etc, etc.

The Stealths appear to be built on Savage hunting-type receivers that are open like a Remington 700. The Ashley appears to be built on the Savage target action, with a small port like a Tikka. It should be a stiffer action than the hunting models.

I shoot for Savage same Action in both Stealth and Ashbury. Much smaller than target action. Both Target and Stealth actions are very stiff. Both are large shank

So you're saying the hunting action with the large opening is on both? Maybe I need to run back to that store and buy the extremely rare Ashbury with a small port that they don't make.

One thing strange is only Rifles I have seen with metal AICS magazines are 338 Lapua which has a more enclosed action like the Ashbury Chassis above?
