Remington 700 308 Muzzle Brake Suggestions

    Hi Everyone,
I know there is threads about this, but everything is constantly changes and new things are always coming out so I thouht I would ask. I wanted to get your suggestions on a muzzle brake for my remington 700. Something that wont break the bank.

    Details
    Remington 700 308 SPS Varmit with a 26" barrel.
    Magpul hunter stock
    Nightforce Nxs 3.5-15 x 56
    GG&G XDS Bi-pod

I took it out to Angeles yesterday for the first time and it shot very well once I was able to zero the scope, but the barrel hop was pretty bad, I wasnt able to see my impacts and had to have someone call them for me. My cousin who I went with had an FN 308 bolt gun with a brake and when I tried his, it didnt jump at all. I would like to reduce the hop as much as possible. Your feed back is greatly appreciated.

Please offer your suggestions for the brake and for a gunsmith in Los Angeles to get it threaded on.

Slightly (totally) off subject, but how do you like your stock? I have an sps tactical with a vortex hst 4-15-44, and am a few clicks away (it has been like this a few days now) from picking up a Grayboe Terrain.

In true fashion, I have found 100 other suitable options that are now littering my title bar.

Try the Ross Schuler brake. Or muzzle brakes and more - where I had to drill two top holes to minimize the jump.

Barrel hop is mostly caused by not getting behind your rifle squarely and perhaps how you are loading the bipod.
APA lil bastard, Ross Schuler and Area419 make good brakes. Both APA and Area 419 are self installable.

It was the first time taking it out but I really like it. Its modular so you can adjust it to work for you. I will have better feedback after a couple more trips

I felt I was pretty square behind it, but I could be wrong. This is my first time getting into bolt guns so I am learning as I go, but the only thing that leads me to believe that may not be the case is it didnt happen to me once on my cousins FN 308 bolt gun.

I have two muzzle brakes, both of them are made by Harrell Precision, and they work well, and they only cost $30.00. http://harrellsprec.com/index.php/ca.../muzzle-brakes

+1 on the Area 419 Hellfire muzzle brake.

How much blast are you willing to tolerate? The brakes with ports angled backwards are the most effective at reducing recoil and muzzle jump.

Examples of this style brake are the APA (American Precision Arms) Little Bastard, ZRODelta Cowl Induction, and Area 419 Hellfire.

But the blast intensity and loudness to bystanders, and to a lesser extent to the shooter, increases with the effectiveness in recoil reduction.

These brakes will make a 308 sound like a short-barreled magnum.

I have an APA Gen I Little Bastard on a 28" barrel 6x47 Lapua, a Gen II Little Bastard on an 24" barrel 308, and an Area419 Hellfire on a 26" barrel 6.5 Creedmoor.

None of these are big cartridges by any measure, but whenever I shoot them, I get asked "What caliber is that?" and "Can you move farther down the firing line?"

                          So there's that to consider.

Im really not concerned about the additional noise, I have great electronic muffs and can also use plugs if needed, but I work at a range and shoot all kinds of loud rifles and walk the line and that never seems to be an issue, as for the people around me who may have an issue with it, they should consider moving if its that bad because it is a shooting range....
