Christensen Arms Ridgeline ?

I'm going to get my 1st hunting rifle and going with .308.

My backup choice is Tikka T3x Lite, but im really not a fan of plastic and it feels cheep in hand when i tried it in LGS.

Winchester M70 Extreme Weather was my goto gun. With fiberglass stock and classic controlled action bolt.

However, Christensen Arms Ridgeline was recommended to me recently:

And it looks perfect to me. But I never heard this brand before. Just wanna check with my calgun buddies to see if anyone has experience with it and how's it going.

Carbon fiber barrels aren't that great Get a Winchester.

My buddy has one in 6.5 creedmoor. It shoots great once he found a load for it. See the attached pic (100 yard group), and it'll shoot about 2.5" at 400 yards for 5 shots. He's taken deer, bear and pigs with it from 30 to ~350 yards.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up if you can afford it. Their weight and accuracy make them hard to beat.

We stock those at my work, and their current offerings are great shooting guns. They've come a long way in the past few years, and everything we've sold has been a shooter. Some of their older stuff blows though.

Bump for Coyote Point Armory AND for Bergara. If you want a classic wood and steel rifle with an excellent build, good accuracy and just a hair under $1K look at the B14 in .308.
ps: If you want a composite stock they have that, too.

Get a R700 for 500$ and save the rest for a serious hunting trip. Any modern .308 will work just fine. Hunting rifles get beat up. Maybe use the leftover for some quality binos and scope.

With a Christensen Arms rifle you wouldn't need to upgrade anything. My go to rifle in a Remington 700 in 7mm-08, the stock, trigger, and firing pin have been replaced and I'm into it for more than the cost of a Christensen Mesa.
My recommendation would be to go with a Mesa, you get all the features of the Ridgeline except the carbon fiber barrel and will have $800 left over to buy a set of Talley light weights and a good scope. Of the calibers offered, the 6.5 and 7mm-08 would be my top picks.

I've got several carbon fiber wrapped barrels (.223, .308, 6.5CM) from Proof Research and they are great if going light is your goal. The winners of the 2017 Sniper Adventure Challenge were running them as well, as does the Army Marksmanship Unit's Daniel Horner who has won a number of 3-gun championships with them. My 6.5 can manage sub-.30 MOA 5-shot groups with factory Hornady 140gr-AMAX.

Never owned a Christensen so I won't speak to their barrels, but the Tikka I do have experience with and they are good rifles and an excellent value.

Also second the 6.5CM for an all around North American and African plains game cartridge. 700 yards and under with good shot placement it is good to go up to and including Elk.

Maybe California elk. I sure as hell wouldn't use it on Arizona or Rocky Mountain elk.

I know several buddies who have used them with good results on kudu and Montana elk. Obviously a 300WM is going to be a better choice for quartering shots, but a heavy 6.5 with good placement will do the job fine: https://www.fieldandstream.com/12-be...hunting#page-4

Carbon fiber not proven... well amigo, time to get some studying on that comment. In fact Bryan Litz just did a whole study on it and the Christensen carbon barrels are better than the proof research barrels. The only reason I went with Proof was the fact they offered the barrel profile I wanted.

Get the expensive rifle, it's a hunting rifle. You won't shoot it enough to burn the barrel out quickly and 6.5 Creedmoor is fine. Great for elk, especially non CA elk. Lol that was a funny comment.

Anyways get the carbon, it has its benefits, weight being it really.
