(so long as you understand about cleaning the barrel)

The things you have to do differently when handloading copper are now understood.

Mongoosev8 touched on the highlights but divernhunter has posted chapter and verse several times in the reloading section.

If it was me i would start with the lightest ttsx option and get a chrono, what a fun project you have taken on.
    Yep
I'll just have to get a chrono and take my reloading to the next level by pioneering my own load data for this.
    It's all good
I've wanted to do something like this for a while

    I'm a noob here
I overlooked that there's a reloading section. I ought to go there

Check out the new 30-30 load data up on the Barnes website for the TSX flat nose bullet (150 gr):
Pioneering the world's most effective all-copper hunting bullet. For over 30 years, we've been engineering the most advanced hunting bullets, trusted by the world's best hunters and shooters.

This would be a good starting point for you.
Its an expensive hobby, but more expensive when you try and convince yourself you don't need what you really want.

Cavity Back Bullets are fairly new and are on the California Approved Bullet list. Have read some pretty good reviews on them. If I wasn't stocked up on the TTSX I would give them a shot.

Primary issue I have with the TTSX and regular TSX (+cavity back bullets) bullets in a 30/30 is that it's a tube fed gun and you don't want a pointy bullet sitting on the next round's primer...

Copper sucks, compared to bonded lead. But oh well

I prefer copper over lead for hunting game. Varmint loads are a different story. Gonna miss the VMax and Nosler leaded varmint bullets when Ca goes 100% lead free.

Scottie15---Barnes makes a bullet for the 30-30 to be used in tube mags. It is safe and does not have the point you worry(rightly) about. It is also designed to expand at lower FPS which the 30-30 has.
It can be a good choice in a 308win/30-06 for reduced recoil (and FPS) loads were you need to still have good expansion. It will also work well in an Encore pistol with those 30cal cartridges since the short barrel reduces speeds.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Hornady 140 gr Leverolution lead free.

They make the same load but call it Full Boar and priced it cheaper. Same product just different box.

This lead free cartridge is what prompted me to get a 30-30 and I like it so much I stopped using my 30-06.
