Savae Hog Hunter, Ruger American, MVP Predator?

I'm thought about the Ruger Scout but want a longer barrel and non forward sight mount.

I'm leaving forward the Savage Hog Hunter but came across the MVP predator and ability to use 10rd mags.

Any thoughts on either? The savage will cost me $400 used if that helps.

    Thanks

MVP Predators are very accurate and great shooters. Check out http://www.mossbergmvp.com before you make any decisions

It depends on what you are going to use the rifle for (target, plinking, hunting big game, varmints) and what ranges you want to shoot it at.

Not a fan of mags hanging from a bolt rifle, but of the choices I believe both the Savage and MVP are on par.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

              My opinion, worth about .03c.
I agree with almost everything you point out. My newest acquisition is a Predator (RAP) and it's fine. Good accuracy with .243 100 gr., and wish barrel was a bit heavier. However, it does not heat up too much, especially with the cease fires at the range figured in.
I just put a Vltor short flash hider/compensator which does not seem to do much but it looks o.k. Does not reduce already light recoil but jury is still out. Some loadings have more punch than others, but it likes Federal blue box best and the Seller & Belliot did o.k.
Right on about stock. If you buy a $425 rifle, you need to have a replacement stock in mind. That green POS is not only ugly but meant to go back in a box or worse. My Boyd's is o.k. and was about $200. Savage stocks suck- barrel flexes against the stock.
Just finished DBM and it works well. CDI does free inletting but I felt like doing the work myself. Took time but turned out o.k. in the end. Add another $300 for DBM & 2 mags.
Total investment about $900 for a decent set-up. Oops, add Leupold scope on sale for $200 half price. Only beef is fired shells seem to eject a bit hard, may have to check headspace. Time will tell.

Update: 2/07/2018 R.A.P. Hard ejection after firing never got better. I thought machining was rough on the bolt face and not a headspace issue. Sent to Ruger in N. Carolina and it was there for about 4-5 days. On the way back now and voila: new bolt from Ruger and they test fired 10 rounds. Should be back here in a week...Not too bad. But: never sent anything back to Ruger, ever. This is a relatively new plant, so I will cut them some slack if everything's fine. POINT: check everything twice before you sign off on it. All these new plants in non-union far-off places with new employees vs. old machinists: well you get the picture.

I have a Hog Hunter and the stock was useless. Flexes all over the place. I put an Accustock on it which was an improvement, but now it's too heavy for a hunting rifle. I wish I had bought something else.

Not too helpful to you but I just picked up a "used" but new in box Mossberg Patriot 30-06 for $200. The nikon free scope is garbage but seems good otherwise.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I would still purchase the Ruger GSR over the other two. In fact, I will be purchasing one sometime this year as my primary hunting rifle. XS sight systems manufactures a standard mounted rail that comes with a rear sight, which solves the forward mounted (scout) rail issue. You still won't have the longer barrel though. The 16" and 18.5" barrels are the only lengths currently manufactured. Both lengths are adequate for 308 Win for hunting and general plinking. Unless your intended purpose is long range plinking/competition shooting at 1000 yards and beyond, then a longer barrel would give the advantage of increased bullet velocity.
