Good guns with a solid reputation

For an entry level rifle they are quite good. Pretty sure they are made by Howa in Japan.

They seem like an entry level hunting gun

They are far more than entry level they are on par with Remington and in my book a better rifle. Oh you could claim the BS Remington after market parts plethora but you need those parts to FIX the Remington so there's that!

Yes the Vanguard and the Howa 1500 are the same rifle different branding.

Very well made with tight tolerances. Any accuracy drawback can be attributed to "flexy tupperware" stock. Inexpensive epoxy bedding of the action and they are sub MOA capable with proper load.

1st just how many different places are you going to post this?
It is a Howa with a weatherby designed stock.
Unless you are getting a Mag cartridge get a Tikka T-3 Lite.
If you are getting a mag cartridge then maybe ok but there are Savage, Ruger ,Rem and others to consider. I have owned a Vanguard. I own Savage, Tikka, Rem, Ruger and others.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I have one in 6.5 Creed..Wood stock and very accurate.Pet Load is 42.0 H4350 140grn Amax. For a Hunter style barrel I can fit 3 inside a nickel at 100 yards, 4th starts to sway as barrel heats up.

They fixed the flexy stock with the Vanguard S2 release.

The S2 plastic stock is still a POS. Get the wood or B&C stock.

The best route would be to wait for a deal on the barreled action from maybe Brownell's to go on sale ($350-450) then choose a stock of your choice.

Not so nice to say it's on par with Remington then, is it? It more resembles the Winchester Model 70 to me.

They are NOT the same rifle. The action comes from Howa, possibly even the barrel, but the rifle is made by Weatherby. The bolt is not even the same. Yes, I have a Howa and had a Vanguard.

Vanguard is a screaming bargain, imo.

Never seen the Vanguard barreled action on Brownell's.

Get a Tikka T3 lite or Winchester XPR, better value. The XPR has the same trigger as the model 70. Both have silky smooth actions, detachable box magazines, and extremely accurate out of the box.

I had a Vanguard series 2. There was nothing wrong with it but the Tikka and XPR are much "better" rifles for the money and can be found at bargain prices, $500-$600.

Tikka T3 Lite Rifle -High performance combined with lightweight ease. The light but sturdy T3 TrueBody fiberglass- reinforced all-black polymer stock is an example of the achievements of the Sako innovation laboratories.

Winchester XPR Hunter Vias Rifle -The Winchester XPR Hunter Vias rifle comes in an attractive camo finish stock with an inflex technology recoil pad. This rifle is light weight and dependable.
