    Tell me about Swedish Mausers

A friend of mine inherited this rifle, she looking to sell it, and offered it to me, but I know nothing about Swedish Mausers. Has some rust from being stored under a bed in a towel. Her dad had told her it's a "rare sniper model". But I doubt it. Trying to figure out what its worth.

Some say that he once mooned two prostitutes just for a round of drinks, but wasn't surprised by the reply......They call him, the Hutch
Some say that he rode a dirtbike 7k miles across the country and that he once applied Bengay to his own testicles for a mere $50............They call him, the Hutch -Top Gear

      Your photos do not show.
They are nice rifles and it is a great cartridge especially if you reload or use European ammo. The American stuff is loaded down due to some weak actions the cartridge was chambered in long ago.
It is pleasant to shoot, accurate and works well for hunting also.

If you are not interested I might be. I have a Tikka T-3 Lite and an original Mauser made around 1900. I would not mind having another rifle in 6.5X55.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Nope I don't think so the mount looks different. Not 100% but I don't think the orginal scopes had the letting on the back like that. Bolt Handel looks a little funny to. They should have been torch bent but from the picture it looks like it's been cut and moved. could be wrong tho, some one correct me if I am.

Also how much of it matches for serial #? The scope bands should also have serial numbers stamped into them easy way to tell if

Pretty sure those 'weak' actions were the Swedish Mausers themselves.

Compared to the '98 Mauser actions, the Swede '96 isn't as strong. Is it strong enough for modern European 6.5X55 loads? I'd be careful and do some research before I make any decisions.

Swedish Mausers are collectible for a few reasons: They didn't see a lot of combat and weren't subjected to emergency wartime measures to speed production or cut costs. The Swedes were also good about supplying cleaner burning ammo and primers than most nations used. They also tend to be the most accurate military Mausers made.

Sniper models are really collectible and expensive. The risk of forgery is significant.

Do a bit of research on rust removal before you decide to do so. Some remedies end up damaging value or the finish itself.

Sorry about the pics I guess photo bucket has gone down hill like Yahoo and Pandora.

All the serial #'s match even the bolt handle. But the mount does not have a serial #.

The parts will likely not get you that much, you can buy a cheap Remington, Weatherby, Savage for less than sporterizing this old beauty and shortening the barrel will likely affect accuracy.

Swedes are pretty sought after. Best to sell to someone and then use that cash for some kind of actual sporting rifle.

Nothing wrong with sporterizing a Swede there are a billion of them out there, besides they make for a nice custom rifle. Op its very doable just shop wisely for parts and a riflesmith and choose an old foagy type.
