Thanks! I did some quick math and it'll cost me $80 just to drive to buy and pickup. so as a great deal as it is...i only save a few bucks. But i'm considering looking for one locally

The Remintgon Long Range has a fairly heavy taper barrel but no brake and a very comfortable synthetic stock. I don't recall for certain if the stock is an HS Precision but think it is, could be a Bell & Carlson. I bought one in 300 WM when they weren't exactly at "sale price". The stock has a nice raised comb to it, not too prominent but more than sufficient for a good cheek weld with a scope. Fairly broad, flat beavertail type forend.

I've been in the SW in Beaverton, OR and the Dicks in Upland, CA and there was no resemblance whatsoever to each other. Dicks here doesn't sell guns or anything related to guns. SW seemed to have a mile of racked guns and 80 handguns on the wall along with a fully stocked accessory and reloading department.

This is a tempting buy. I would appreciate any insight from those who own these "entry level" Rem 700's as to how they compare to the Howa 1500 rifle in .308 with the Hogue stock and heavy barrel. They both seem to be priced toward the same market.

The Dicks ad has the 700 Long-range for $419
What ad is the 700 Long Range in, I'm not finding anything about it.

None of the 700s being spoken of on sale are heavy barrel versions, are they??

                            For $ 329.00 ?

A nice barrel costs $ 329.00 or more + gun smithing . . . so close to double

Exactly my thought... which is why I wasn't understanding his comparo with the Howa...

I bought a budget 700ADL in 30-06 long time back with plastic stock..... it is one of the "J-lock guns" , shoot 180gr Sierras out of it , accurate rifle and would rather get another one instead of some of the budget minded rifles they turn out today.
Rifle came with iron sights and I liked that also.
