    Thread count

Need some help with a thread count on my Winchester M70, post 64 in 7mm mag.Its either 16 or 28. Wanted to order a new barrel, but still shoot, as the barrel would be 14 weeks out. Winchester won't give me a thread count because of liability. Any help please.

This thread is posted at a good time. I'm going to rebarrel my M70 from 308w to 6.5Creedmoor and thread count was a question.
      Keep it simple!

I was afraid this was going to be about sheets. I think I've been spending too much time in the OT forum.
Wish I was rich instead of so damn good looking.

            It could also be 1"x28.
The easiest way to tell is to unscrew the barrel and look.
The difference between 16tpi and 28tpi is quite obvious.

There is no question that unscrewing the barrel and measuring the thread pitch will reveal what you have.

Depending on where your located, it would be easier to pay a gunsmith to take the barrel off for you. Your going to need a gunsmith to set the headspace on the new barrel anyways.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

When was your gun made? The finer pitch
was introduced when FN took over.

Unless you are buying a "pre fit", what would it matter?

Just for my own information.A gunsmith will be doing the anyway.I want to do something with this m70 that nobody wants,so I decided to scope it ,rebarrel and turn it into a mid-range to long range prone rifle.

It says New Haven, Connecticut on the barrel

Same here, be rebarreling for target shooting long range.
