Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight

Hey everybody,

I'm looking for advice on a used pre 64 Winchester model 70 featherweight in 308. I've read up a little on them and thought I would ask for your thoughts on it. I've been looking for a 308 bolt gun for hunting, target shooting and so on.

I saw a used one that seemed to be in good condition at the local shop for $700.

In good cond that's a good price on average they run $700-$1000 all depends on condition and no missing parts. Don't anal about a recoil pad being installed if it has one lot's of people added them back in the day. They are well worth every $$

From my research on the serial number it is a pre 64.

If you don't take it tell me where it is please ! I have shot 70's for 30 years +, love the feathers and seek the early models or their earlier cousins, check it out and enjoy.

A feather weight anything wont make a good target rifle. Good for hunting but a thin barrel isnt meant for a lot of shooting in one sitting.

The action and stock are quite heavy but they have those teeny light weight barrels. I have a Kimber Montana that weighs under 5lbs that I consider an overall feather weight. So compared to a modern light weight rifle the Model 70 isnt really in the feather category but they still make decent light hunting rigs.

Pre 64 featherweights were the light rifles of the times, So in essence they were true featherweight rifles.

Sounds like a great deal. I almost bought one for $900 that was in really nice condition, but had the left side of the receiver drilled for a scope mount. I didn't like that, so I passed.

Hmmm. Don't believe he'll be shooting any F class with a Mod 70 FW. The one I had[1990?] weighted 7lb6oz. 30-06. Damn fine rifle. Shotguns took me over tho.

A pre-64 featherweight 308 is a rare find. Buy it at that price!
