Anyone shoot a Re, 700 SPS in .308win?

Just bought someone a Remington 700 SPS in .308win. Looking for recommendations on lead-free ammo for hunting and would prefer NOT to burn several different weight bullets to see what this gun eats best. Is there a website where detailed ammo testing results are posted? This is the rifle I just bought for a new hunter. https://www.remington.com/rifles/bol.../model-700-sps

It's got good glass on it so I am looking for a nontoxic bullet that will kill deer, hog, bear and elk.
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

It is very rare that any 2 factory guns are going to like the same food. This is truly a shoot -n- see ordeal.

The results that someone else obtained through their rifle are useless unless you buy the actual rifle the tests were performed with.

Two rifles of the same make/model/chambering could have dramatically different preferences for ammo.

Damn! Didn't know that. Seems odd. Thanks though!

Is he a new hunter and a new shooter? If so I would just worry about getting him or her consistent then start on ammo.

If you have an inconsistent shooter searching for the right ammo it may turn into a lot of chasing tail.

he's shot rifles but this one is new. He is new to hunting so I am teaching him the ropes and helping him practice in various shooting positions to prepare him for the field.

Your only going to find a few factory lead-free CA compliant brands. Lead-free also like faster twists for the same weight as lead.

With the SPS the Barnes TTSX 168 sold in Barnes Vortex tends to shoot well and most importantly is generally one of the easiest to find.

You can find loaded GMX, E-Tips, Winchester and if your willing, CEB's.. But again, I'd start with the TTSX

As an owner of over a dozen .308 rifles in different configurations, the above as posted by Randall is very true. With that said, after much experimentation on my part, I usually start with factory ammunition loaded with Barnes 168 TSX bullets, as it seems to be consistent in a number of different rifles. If you try that one, and if it gives acceptable results, there will not be many others that will beat it. Of course there is always something that will give a small improvement, but really how much time do you want to spend chasing something that may have no practical difference in real-world?

Thanks guys. Will try the TSX. He's right handed and left eye dominant sooo...ammo may not be the greatest limiting factor here. LOL

My oldest boy also. He struggles in shooting trying to deal with being left eye dominant. He makes up for his bad marksmanship by doubling up in his rate of fire. Just pisses me off.

Not a practical hunting solution. LOL
