6mm Comp Match

Anyone here shooting the 6mm Comp Match?

I am in the process of stripping my Remington in 308 down to convert it to a 6mm round and thinking about going the comp match route.

I have a 6.5 creedmoor and am looking at the 6mm round next. Why I guess why not. It gives me something to mess with fire forming brass and shooting a different round.

I really like the fact of the 6mm Comp Match round using H1000 or equivalent that is a slow burning powder giving the barrel a much longer lifetime somewhere areound 2500 to 3000 rounds.

PLease let me know if anyone else is shooting this round and let me know your thoughts?

The claims for the 6CM are somewhat inflated.
If you run the 115 grain bullets expect 3050 fps and not 3200+ FPS.
With the 103-108 class bullets some are claiming 3400 FPS and out of a 243 case that just isn't going to happen.
The 6mm-06 using 57 grains of H1000 and Lapua brass will push a 107 Sierra 3433 FPS out of a 30 inch 8 twist barrel and barrel life isn't good.
If your after deadly accuracy in a 6mm chambering the 6 Dasher gives you 3025-3060 FPS with a 108 class bullet in a 28-30 inch barrel.

Lynn pretty much covered it. The current PRS 6mm cartridge is the 6mm Creedmoor. The .243Win is old school but either will do just as well with a fast twist barrel.

The advantages of the 6mm Creedmoor and .243Win is no caseforming (important when barrel life is >2K), will shoot 105's@3150fps in a >26" barrel.

6mm Dasher is stupid accurate and easy to tune. Need to caseform unless you use the new Norma brass. 105's@2950fps in >26" barrel. Longer barrel life.

The 6mm Competition Match will either provide more performance or same performance with potentially longer barrel life, but in my experience not as much longer than is stated. Does require caseforming and sourcing semicustom dies.

All depends on what performance you seek and how much you want to do to get it.

I was originally looking at the 6mm creadmoor but was not fond of the barrel life. After looking at all of the different loads I saw the 6mm comp match. I liked this round due to longer barrel life and it using the slower burning powders. I always see h1000 in stock vs the vargets and h4350.

The good thing about running a 6 Dasher is once the accuracy goes away at around 2000 rounds you can run a 6-284 or 6mm-06 reamer into the barrel without having to cut the old tenon or chamber.
This gives you new steel and a fresh throat so you get another 1000 rounds of barrel life before you need to set back the barrel. You do need to cut 1/2 inch off of the muzzle because the original 2000 rounds will cause some firecracking at the muzzle.
A 103-108 grain bullet pushed to 3425 FPS is about as flat as it gets out to 1000 yards. The new Sierra 110 has a BC of around 0.610 and if you run the numbers you will see why the 6mm is such an outstanding choice.
Quarter inch accuracy and flat as a laser is tough to beat.
I don't know what other chambering should will work without having chamber drawings.
It is possible the 243 will work without any setback.
The key ingredient is the availability of Lapua brass. In the old days we were stuck with large rifle primers and huge flashhole. When Remington came out with there URBR 308 brass that all changed and now todays Lapua brass is even better.

I have a wildcat almost identical to the 6CM. 3150-3200 is doable. And after 500+ rounds there was zero fire cracking with DTAC's and N165.

I also have a 6x47Lapua Imp which pushes DTAC's and 110SMK's at 3080 that I shot a lot of F and steel with. Barrel life is 1500 rounds of F Class type shooting, which is hard on barrels. Vertical at 1K with 110's and RL16 is excellent.
I just put a new barrel on it and hoping for a little more barrel life went with the 6BRAI. It will push the 110 to about 2920 and I'll doing load development tomorrow. But several guys shooting it say 2920 is the place to be with 110's in BRAI.

For a no hassle load and go a Dasher with Norma Dasher brass is stupid easy. And a 6 Creed not much more work. A 6 Creed on Lapua brass with RL16 and 110's around 3100 is big medicine on a windy day.

I've shot about 1000 110SMK's over the last 10 months and the G1 works out to around .620-.630 at 3080 fps at both Sacramento and Palomino.
