What ever you get make sure it is one piece and coated. I second the Dewey.

That and use a bore guide. I use Pro Shot or Tipton rods, and a Possum Holllow bore guide.

          Dewey for the win.

This is one of those items you want to buy in person. I've seen too many mangled in shipping.

BoreTech because it has a big soft handle and you don't need an adaptor for a brush.

I second that,I use boretech cleaning rods, proof positive nylon brushes, jags and cleaners.

Op if it's a bolt rifle, try to find a rifle specific rod guide.I have a PMA tools rod guide for my ruger precision .308 and I'm getting ready to order a possum hollows for my browning x-bolt .308.I have a universal one and don't care for it.

If you decide to go the Tipton route, try to buy local as I've had 2 broken during shipping. I like my bore techs...
Just saw TKM posted the same. He has good advice!

I've had Bore Tech rods for many years but a year ago I bought a .30 cal Tipton carbon fiber rod, I think the Bore Tech is a smoother rotating rod and it has an indexing mark at the end of the handle that makes checking barrel twist a snap. What I don't like about the Bore Tech is the coating on the rod eventually wears off, Tipton's is carbon fiber so no coating to wear off and it's super light and easy to handle, the "easy to handle" part might seem funny to some of you, but if you've never worked a Tipton CF rod you should give it a try, it's just easier to wield around.

I currently use Pro-Shot stainless steel rods. I just like the rigidity / stiffness of these rods, as well as the fact they don't flake (hint: Dewey coated). I still have Dewey rods that I still use, but as the coatings wear off or if I need to get a new rod, I will get a Pro-Shot. I tried CF rods years ago, but never bought more because I couldn't stand the amount of flex with CF rods.

I will also concur with the PMA Tools bore guide. They are good and far easier/quicker to obtain than a Lucas. But if you can get a Lucas, definitely get the Lucas.

I recently purchased a new bore guide for the Remington 700 action chambered in .308 Winchester made by PMA Tool. The most sought after cleaning rod bore guide is the Lucas bore guide. I wrote a mi…

Tipton Max Force. The only cleaning rod you'll need.

I had a one piece steel BoreTech cleaning rod, but I never used it.

I prefer the aluminum rods. They don't scratch up the barrel.

I made my own carbon fiber cleaning rod from some arrow shaft blanks. I carry it when I go hunting. It is for my 444 and 450, not my 308.
