UPDATE SOLVED POST 36 Chambering Issue - Great Gunsmith Recommendation Needed

    Hey all,

Wondering who you guys would recommend as a great gunsmith for a precision rifle. I have a custom built Remington 700 chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. This thing is truly a sub MOA rifle with minimal effort using factory rounds.

I probably have 500-600 rounds through it.

For the last 60 or so rounds I have been running into an issue with tight chambering. The first time it happened I had a live round get stuck, and I mean stuck in the chamber. I couldn't close the bolt on it and I couldn't extract it. That was a fun time removing it.

Long story short, I cleaned it really well after that happened and it seemed to resolve it for a short time but now it's doing the same thing again. Not every round is difficult to chamber but every couple are either difficult to close the bolt on or won't chamber at all.

The ones that are difficult to chamber I noticed I am getting some vertical scratches on the bullet at the shoulder down to the case neck.

Anyway, I don't feel comfortable continuing to shoot it, although the rounds I do fire don't seem to suffer in the accuracy department. However, my fear is if I take it to any gunsmith the rifle won't be the same after being looked at or worked on and the original builder who once worked for a very big name in the industry I am no longer able to get in touch with.

Also I have tried 3 different types of ammo and same thing with all of them.

Sorry for the long winded post. Recommendations are appreciated.

    Location would help.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
    I'm Back.

I forgot about Randall. Would absolutely trust him. Do you know where abouts he is located? I'll shoot him a PM.

Randall is the man. I drove from AZ to have him work on my gun.

Also I don't think your having issue that needs a smith to solve. It sounds like your issue can be solved with simply hand loading.

If you are in Rancho area Brad Blancett in Montclair.

                    Great guy.

If you can travel a bit then Randall with AR15barrels here on CGN.

Those are the two I would personally recommend, and the only ones I have use myself.

In the process of getting set up. But I never had the issue with factory rounds for the first five or 600.

Same bullets the whole time? Or did you switch to a heavier longer bullet?

Same bullets, same lot number, same everything. I know there can be inconsistencies with factory loads so I picked up two others and same issue, even worse with the others.

Original rounds were all Hornady 140g AMAX, all from the same lot.
Switched to Hornady 140g ELD and same thing.
Winchester 140g with the Sierra Match King BTHP gave me the most issues.

I shot Randall a message. I don't know why he didn't cross my mind but I would trust his work from what I have seen here.

Wow. Just so weird that the issue just popped up all of sudden.

Hopefully Randall can run the reamer in it without having to do a full set back.
