I've done some reading about hammer-forged barrels.
I gather that hammer forging forms ONLY the barrel's rifling.
Why don't the mandrels used to form the rifling include an integral chamber-forming section at their rear (make the mandrel longer) so that as the barrel blank is fed into the hammer forge the rifling and chamber are formed in one operation?
