Found a Solution for my Long Remington Chamber

Yup I finally found a great solution for my stupid lawyer proof Remington chamber. I bought a Krieger barrel and took it to Randall. Now I have a chamber that allows me to seat bullets well under mag length.

    Specs:

    Krieger SS .308 1:10 26" 5R barrel

    308 fullbore chamber

    Randall did his bolt magic

    Precision ground recoil lug

I'll re-bed the recoil lug tonight. I have 100 rounds of 178 Amaxs loaded with 42.8 grains of 4064 already with new unfired Lapua. I just ordered a small base die to resize all my other once fired Lapua brass to fit the new chamber. I'll test it out next week and share the results.

Nice rig... just curious what your rationale was for going with .308 on a rebarrel

In the last year I invested in 200 pieces of Lapua Brass, Forster BR dies, 400 178g Amaxs and 8 pounds of 4064. I was all set for .308, making the switch to another round would have been a ton of work and some money lost.

Also I like .308. I think it offers more value in training and teaching. You need better wind reading skills and better recoil management. Plus .308 is so damn versatile. You can load a 125 grain varmint round or a 200 grain heavy hitting large game round.

My reasoning as well. I rebarreled an FN SPR to another 308 and some thought I was crazy. I think I'll always have a 308 in the stable

NorCal; Post a report when you get it to the range. I've got the same plan in mind (though it has to wait until another bench gun gets done and the wallet refills.)

Will do. This has been about 6 months of saving and waiting lol. I bought the barrel back in February, then had to wait to get more money to have the work done. So I feel your pain.

That is one fine rifle, I like your rational for wanting the .308. Definitely give us a report

So when you have a customer that cancels on you at the last minute you use the free time to go shoot.

So here's the first range report. Shot one was about 8" high and landed off target. Aimed at the bottom of the paper and hit with shot 2. A little tweak from 3 to 4, then drilled in shots 5,6,7. 8,9 landed great, I pulled 10 into the bull. Slight flinch on 11 but the rest went dead on. If I hadn't pulled that shot that group would have been sub 1/2 MOA.

Shot my final group at 200. Two in one hole. The rest puts me right at 1/2 MOA. I dialed 2 MOA to come up, 1.5 would have been great. So I know this barrel has some speed in it.

Having a gun that I know can shoot is a huge help. Now if I miss, I know it was me and not the rifle. This should really help me learn to shoot better.

                Virgin Lapua Brass
                178 Amax
42.8g of 4064 (node from my factory barrel)
Winchester Primers. They cratered a small amount and flattened. But no other signs of pressure. I have some of the same load with CCI primers so I'll see if they do the same thing.

Fwiw, I nearly always get false or early pressure signs with win and standard CCI primers. CCI BR primers and federal magnum work fine on hot loads.

That is my rationale as well. I pretty much suck at rifle (I'm OK with a pistol), removing the unknowns should give a more solid knowledge base to work from.

Keep sharing as you move forward, if it's not too much trouble.

I can't wait until my 260AI is done and we can get these rifles side by side, maybe at your place even!

Come down in November, for the race and we'll go shooting.

Dad and I are hunting Idaho in November. But maybe...
