Ruger American .270

I'm looking for a bolt action gun for my son to hunt with. These seem to be 100.00 or so less than the black synthetic stocks.

Can you point out the difference for me.

I see these two guns with the copper mica stocks, the price seems to be about 100.00 cheaper then the American Rugers with the black synthetic stocks listed on the same site.

I suggest you go feel one or two or three at the store. For me, they feel like garbage. Maybe you'll be lucky and the bolt/action won't feel like it has sand or grit in the action.
I guess tikkas have spoiled me.
I'd look at Marlins, howas and TC venture first. Then hold the tikka and maybe you'll understand

I love the 2 Tikka's I have and the one my daughter has.
I also have a Ruger American and like it a lot. It is cheaper than the Tikka but shoots as well. Yes the Tikka feels better when holding it. The Ruger is a lot of rifle for less money.
You cannot go wrong with either. Do not care for the cartridge you selected. I would go with a 25-06, 260Rem, 7-08, 308 or one of the other 6.5mm cartridges myself.

I have to disagree and 270 is a very good round. My 16 year old daughter shoots it just fine. Flat shooting, hits hard and You'll find it everywhere just like 06. it will take down almost anything you want.
I would not get a 308 or 25/06.

I have one in navy camo with a burris scope in .270 that goes deer hunting every year. Works just fine.

Ruger American .270

I like mine in 270, have a Tikka in 270... if it wasn't for how horrible the magazine in the RA, I'd like it more... the two shoot similarly- just a have over .5 MOA unless you really heat up the barrels

Nothing wrong with .270

Makes an excellent all around rifle. Haven't got hands on the American Rifle, but it a decent enough gun from what I hear. Tikka's are pretty sweet, though.

The difference is the color of the stock.
The less expensive one is probably harder to sell and therefore being discounted accordingly.
