    Ruger poverty precision rifle 6.5cr

    Ruger American Predator 6.5creedmoor
    Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50
    EGE 20moa mount
    Vortex rings
    Harris bipod
    PWS PRC brake
Factory stock filled with lead and sand
Front sanded and lined with JB weld

Under $1000 retail into this not including ammo.

    100 yards
crosshair on center of red dot
    3 shots hot bore Hornady 140 ELD-M
    scope at 18x

The factory stock is horrible but I don't want to break the $1000 mark. Wish I could get a 5 round mag for a realistic group. I love the scope but have not tried it past 100 so who knows what it will do at distance. The rifle was fine at 500 yards with a PA 4-14x44 FFP RGRID.

Not sure how to measure this. Is it from furthest cuts or a guess at bullet center to bullet center?

    Poverty! Hilarious!

The free version is no longer available, but $12 is cheap:
The OnTarget Precision Calculator is used to measure and analyze bullet hole groups to calculate firearm precision and accuracy.

And you measure CTC for groups, easily done with On Target, OR if you have good clean target paper (you don't), measure edge to edge and subtract the diameter of a single bullet.

    Edit to add: Excellent result!

The one experience I had with Athlon scopes (not my own, but a person I was coaching for a LR clinic), he ran out of elevation with a Ruger RPR at 1,000 yards. Not sure if it was the same scope, but it was surprising to see the Athlon scope bottom out, even with a 20 MOA cant base on the RPR. Weird....

With regards to your measuring of the group, Use a program like "On Target" or use regular paper (not Shoot N C) and then measure from the edge-to-edge of the largest point of the group of the powder mark on the paper, then subtract the bullet diameter (0.264"). Some may argue that this is wrong, but it is close enough. With the Ontarget software, you can just ballpark the center of the bullet hole.

You like that Athlon over the computer you had? lol

Why not get a Boyds stock? I know it will break the $1000 mark, but not by much.

The X-sight is more of a pig scope. I like it more at night with my Nitecore IR emitter. It has a completely different purpose. It is not bad for the price. It would be a decent spotting scope and recorder for night time "hunts". I already sold it so it was nice to test it out.

I got the athlon for free to see if I want to sell the product line. I have to return it if I don't want it or call athlon and pay dealer cost to keep it. I will probably keep it.

I don't think Boyds makes an ambi stock for the predator. I need to shoot left handed but make it so others can shoot right handed. There is some chassis for it that makes it look like a RPR but I am not putting more money into it unless I can't get to 1000 yards.

My friend and I cut out a trail on his property and put an 18" gong on a hill last Saturday. One spot gets us to 725-750 yards, another is 850 yards, and another is 1100-1150. The nice thing is the wind seems to be a fairly consistent 5mph to the right through the whole distance. Only drawback are rattlers on the hill. Now we have an 1100 yard gong ready to drive up to only 45 minutes away.

Typically use a caliper to measure furthest cuts and subtract caliber to get center to center. Practically, just zero on an unfired bullet and measure largest cut.

There's a long range shooting school in Idaho that recommends the Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmoor with some upgrades. Ruger must be doing something right for that kind of recommendation.

                  It's their price point.

I gotta agree on the price point thing, but for the price point its a pretty good rifle.

My American shoots pretty well, but the fit and finish of the rifle leaves a lot to be desired.

If there is one thing I could change it would be the magazine.

It hates shooting fire formed brass because sometimes it gets hung up in the magazine, as in the rotary feed sticks and wont move the next forward to feed, and the feel of the bolt close on a zero head space case is terrible. My Remington feels a lot better when shooting fire formed brass.

Even after going back to sized cases, one drop of the mag in light dry sand and I am back to having feed issues. Not much resistance to field conditions... I think it would make a terrible hunting rifle to be honest.

Took the PPR out today. With 5mph wind I was sub moa at 815 yards with 3 shot groups at 7.93".
My ballistic sheet told me to come up 7.1 mils but I needed 7.3.

Moved back to 1125 yards and got 2 hits at sub moa but then the wind picked up and I could not get any more hits. I'll try again when I have time to go out.
I started at 12.2 mils but needed 13.3.

18" gong was a few feet higher than my portable bench.

815 yards was very easy to get on steel. 1125 was exponentially tougher. I never shot past 500 until today.

Hey audiophil, just saw this. Magpul hunter stock for the PPR.

I just posted about the new Magpul GL Enhanced Magwell and another tipster sent me more products that Magpul will be announcing at the 2017 NRA Annual Meeting in Atlanta. We already knew that they were releasing a windowed DAKA pouch since they announced it earlier today on their Facebook page but we had no idea the rest of the new products were coming. As I said in the previous post, the GL Enhanced Mag Well is great news for anyone who wanted to see what impact a mag well has when performing reloads at an attainable price point. In addition to the DAKA pouch and the Glock mag well, Magpul is rolling out a version of their Hunter stock (which I just reviewed and found to be wonderful) for short action Ruger American Rifles. The stock features detachable bottom metal that accepts the Magpul AC magazines and has an MSRP of $299.The last product is an enhanced magazine release for AR-15s.

I saw that a few days ago. I'm really trying to keep the gun under $1000 so I will keep working on the factory stock.

I am confident I can stay under 1 moa at 1000 yards which was my goal of 1000 yards at 1 moa under $1000. I'm going to try the new 147 Hornady to see if it helps with wind.

We plan on trying again but starting very early. We left my house at 730 and we're shooting by 9. I only had about 1 hour after we moved to 1125 yards before the wind kicked up. I think we will leave so that daylight starts just after we have the target cam and table set up. Maybe leave here at 430. The plate faces due east so it shines nice in the morning.
