    Need Load for 6.5 X 55 ( update )

My new barrel will arrive week after next. Would like to know what you 6.5 X 55 re loaders are using

My new build will look identical to the .223 in my earlier post " What it cost to build .223 "

Send me a PM with your email and I will send you the info I have. I have chrono and targets using a number of bullets. Mind you these are hunting loads and none are target/match bullets.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I have a Tikka T3 and have not found the 6.5 x 55 to be finicky about handloads. I use H4350 to push 140 gr. bullets from Nosler, Hornady, Berger and Sierra. 1" groups are not a problem and I am no precision shooter. I was surprised when 150 gr. Sierra Match Kings shot way under 1" consistently. I am also using basic Prvi brass bulk processed. I think you picked a great caliber.

For my Swedish M96 I have been using 43gr of Alliant Reloder 22 with a 140gr bullet. These are only shot out to 200 yards so didn't need heavy loads. I tried 0.5gr increments from 43 to 44.5 and anything more than 43 did not seem to be an improvement so 43 saves me some powder. I am only using iron sights.
But now I'm out of Reloder so my need to try some IMR 4064 which I have an abundance of.

I started with 43gr of IMR4350 and worked up to 44gr, but the rifles were suspect re barreled Mauser's.....I was up to 2650-2710 on the Chrono with the 44gr. I need an accurate rifle so I can test them right

Mine is a 1-8" twist. I shoot 140s, 139, and the nosler Bt 120 gr. are really good with 43.5 of IMR 4350. Google modern loads for 6.5 x 55 you will get a lot of feedback.

                Mauser 98.
45.5-47.0 Rel 22 with 139-142gr target bullets. All loads under 48K psi.
                46gr in 28" barrel gives 2740fps average.

45.8-46.3 of IMR4831 gives similar results.

If you study every load listed online for the swede what keeps coming up is rl-22.
All three of barnes "most accurate" loads are rl-22.

Does anyone read a manual anymore ? Every manual from every source, bullet and powder manufacturers from the last 40 years has this data.

There is a great write up on RL-17 and 6.5x55 in Mauser central from about 7 years ago. I'll see if I can find it for you instead of being a harping hen pecker !!

Is Lapua Naturalis CA Legal for non lead?
They have some nice 6.5x55 offerings.

Here ya go. Now go buy 5 manuals.

This is Alliant's new powder made in Switzerland. 6mmbr has a great tech article on it here: http://www.6mmbr.com/reloder17.html RL17 is different in that the chemical that controls burn rate permeates the entire kernel, as opposed to previous powders where it's pretty much only on the surface...

I use H4831 with 123 and 140's. The 127 lrx shot great with this powder also.

Are these Barnes bullets the non-lead ones? I want to reload my own for my Swedish Mauser and a modern Howa rifle chambered in 6.6x55. It is tough finding factory nonlead ammo for 6.5x55.
