The 1895 is not a fun rifle to shoot, ergonomics really suck.

WTB: Winchester /Miroki 1895 .30-06; No1. Mk. III SMLE .303 British; M96 Swedish Mauser 6.5x55mm; M39 Finnish Mosin 7.62x54r; S&W 625 .45 ACP; Glock 17.I purge the wicked. The impious madness must end. I shall be the instrument of Armageddon. It has gotten out of hand...Comment

OP, you mention Winchester 1895; you lose that "classic" look as described.
If you are thinking the Win '95, then there is no reason to dismiss the Browning BLR, Win 88, or Savage 99. All three have nice lines. I personally like Savage 99's. They have graceful lines, and over the years were made in a number of nice cartridges including 308.
The Browning BLR has graceful lines, and is available in 300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag if you really want to reach out.
Another option is a Marlin 1895 in 45-70, with the longer octagon barrel. 45-70 will reach out there...
Otherwise, look at one of the Sharpes replicas. Get one of the big buffalo cartridges for something really fun.Comment

Point well taken, but I give the Winchester '95 a pass because of stuff like this:OP, you mention Winchester 1895; you lose that "classic" look as described. That is actually on my radar, and my personal favorite levergun caliber. Though, I want to pick something with a flatter trajectory and less recoil so that others in my family can enjoy.

I stupidly sold my beautiful 1886 Winchester/Mirouki, on calguns no less, and easily one of the most regrettable times I've sold a gun.Last edited by Army GI; 04-18-2017, 11:07 AM.WTB: Winchester /Miroki 1895 .30-06; No1. One of my favorites at the moment in the Model 1895. I would go with that, but I'm biased."Far and away the best prize life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." - Theodore Roosevelt
