    Winchester model 70 classic compact

Picked up a new to me winchester model 70 classic compact in .243 (one of the old still made in USA, but controlled round feed models made by Olin Corp.) I havent had a chance to shoot it at the range, but it shot well just shooting left over clays and such, it had a nikon 2-7 x 39 UCC monarch scope on it already, paid 600$ flat at the pawnshop total, felt like i did ok for this one, doesnt look to have been fired much, just some safe handling marks on the wood stock, overall I plan to make this into my hunting rifle, and add a vintage leupold compact 2.5x scope on it for a compact woods gun.

thanks for looking, I'll be back shortly for a range test.

      Good find Adam.

Like the .243 and also like the Winchester Model 70.

You will absolutely hate this rifle. But, I'll take it off your hands.

Actually, that is a nice rifle. You did very well. That one would look good in my collection!

Besides upper end or customs I've yet to see a nicer rifle than a Early Winchester.

                    Hi Adam,

That is one gorgeous rifle, and I'm a rifle aficionado. The .243 Win is a classic cartridge that's excellent for most big game.

I have the same rifle in stainless in .308 Win. I bought it sometime in the mid-90's. It was a limited run of stainless & walnut. I have never taken to stainless rifles. One of these days I'm gonna sell it. However, it does kill mule deer dead In their hooves. Your .243 Win will kill 'em just as dead. After all, dead is dead, and mule deer know only one condition of dead.

I wish you many successful seasons afield with your beautiful rifle.

Even many upper end rifles aren't as beautiful as a Featherweight. I wish I had bought a rifle like Adam's instead of a stainless & walnut. I got caught up with the limited run thing.

Stainless and walnut are a great match.

I actually think the new FN-made M70s are better. Dare I say....even better than my pre-64 M70s (and I have 5 of those)!!!

                            My new supergrade is flawless:

I absolutely love my W70 Sporter in 30-06 I picked up new a couple years ago, incredibly smooth action and the trigger and accuracy is phenomenal right out of the box.

                              Beautiful rifle pictures gentlemen
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.
