Has anyone seen a used Marlin 1895 with a 22 inch barrel in 45-70 or in .444 Marlin at any shops lately?

Can anyone help me find a gun
On a 45-70 your not really gaining much from a longer barrel as far as velocity or accuracy. Also most of the 22 inch 1895's I've seen in 45-70 come with micro groove rifling and are not as desirable as the Ballard rifling especially if shooting cast bullets. I prefer a 16-18 barrel especially since it's a pretty short range rifle, I'd say 200yds max after that the projectile drops rather quickly. I don't own a .444 but I do have 7 45-70's and a .450 marlin among other leverguns. I think that .444 will shoot flatter but not by muchComment

If your local I'd be willing to meet up at a range and let you shoot a few, I have from 16 to 26 inch barreled 45-70's. I'm in Los AngelesComment

Javinthewrench: I don't usually like .45-70's but that one looks cool!Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.Comment

If you need a reasonable FFL for a transfer check out Brooks Arms and Ammunition in Manteca. He just does transfers but I have used him several times with zero issues. Great guy to deal with. B.Comment
