    Henry Single shot rifle

Any one exited to give one of these a try?
I am thinking about the steel (black) version in 45-70.

Time stands still for nobody, including Henry Repeating Arms. We’ve built our name and reputation on America’s most extensive line of lever actions, and that’s what most of the firearms world thinks of when our name comes up. But we’ve felt for quite a while now, that there’s more we could be doing in the

I'd like to see one live. Wish the barrel was a little heavier in profile.

Their single shot shotgun has a real nice look...of course that would be very heavy in .45-70!
Your introduction to shotgunning could have been taught by Dad, or maybe Grandpa, by taking you out in the forest or field and patiently explaining how to shoulder it, how to lean into the gun, how to use that bead, and how to lead on a bird or rabbit. Later on, you may have graduated

Henry quality is fantastic so I'm certainly interested at the price points I've seen.

I think 45-70 might be a bit punishing given the light weight (no tube or bolt). Maybe 44 mag?

I want to get into silhouette shooting and need to be able to knock 60lbs rams over. Guess the 45-70 should do that.
The black version has a recoil pad

I like the straight stock, also like being able to mount a scope on it. I have a ruger no.1 in 45/70 and mounting a scope that will take the recoil is kind of a pain.

45-70 is too heavy for silhouette unless your shooting blackpowder cartridge silhouette, but the barrel is not heavy or long enough to be competitive. Your shoulder likely will not hold up for 60 rounds.

.243 and .308 are better cartridges.

Also to heavy for silhouettes up to 500 yards?

The rainbow trajectory of the 45-70 makes long distance shooting a challenge. The blackpowder guys use it but they shoot from a supported position. Centerfire silhouette shooters use modern cartridges.
