    Remington 760 rifle

I recently picked up this Remington 760 .30-06 from a fellow Calgunner. It was made in 1975 and was a nostalgia buy as I had one like it of the same year bought new when I lived in Western Pa. many years ago (41 to be exact)

This one is like all 760s that I've owned, bolt action sporter accurate for the first 5 rounds or so and then opens up by a couple of inches as soon as the thin barrel gets hot. Still and all, it shoots nice pyramid shaped three shot groups at 100 yards shooting Korean PS M2 ball that can be covered by a .25 piece - when cold.

I have another, a 1961 made carbine in .30-06 that is about as accurate and does the same thing with a hot barrel. The rate of fire is pretty impressive with this one as long as your shoulder can stand it. Not the rifle for those who have marginal shoulders. Lots of fun and a serious game getter or mountain carbine.

    Nice keepers there.
The .308 version of the carbine is another great version.

really... how could you? The horrible self-firing triggers.. come on, you did see the 60 minute piece where people point guns and load rounds counting on the safety, didn't you?

You really MUST sell these to me below market value so that I can make sure they are... uhhh, uhhh crap, I can not think of the correct words.. but I'd love to have them

For the record I am not a thin hunting barrel collector and I am drooling over these... honestly, very nice..

Get the Knoxx stock with the recoil reduction for this model Remington - soaks up the .30-06 recoil and lightens it for hunting. Your shoulder will thank me if you do this upgrade . . .

I'm going to replace the rock hard recoil pads with fresh ones. That will help a lot. It is interesting how recoil pads stiffen with age.

Therr was a member on here who customized a couple of these out a few years ago.

If done right they look nice.

The 760 is a really great sporting rifle....much better than it's semi-auto cousins.
The stringing is normal for any pencil barrelled hunting gun. There is a carbine version in .270 at my LGS that has been tempting me for awhile.

I have one and have taken a lot of game with it. 30-06 and shortened the barrel to carbine length. Then replaced the ADL with a BDL stock so I would have the cheek riser. Topped with old Redfield one piece mount(Leupold now days) and a 3X9X40 Leupold scope.
Had a trigger job done on it and learned from the gunsmith how to do them.
Sighted in in 1970 and still using the same load data. Never have needed to readjust the scope.

I have done at least 2 dozen triggers for friends and such since.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
