Help me pick my next rifle

I'm considering shooting BPCR (black powder cartridge rifle) but not with black powder. I'm thinking that 45-70 would be a good caliber since it's readily available, I can reload it, and lots of rifles chamber it. So clearly I'm looking for a 19th century rifle. A replica, not an actual collectible! I think this caliber can reach targets to 300-400 yards. I will not be shooting farther since I can't see targets that far. This rifle will never be used to hunt, just target shooting. I'd like to keep the price to around $1500. I know quality is expensive. Single shot or lever action? What do you suggest? Who has good quality? Prefer a rifle that is true to the original. Go!

You should be able to pick up a decent, original trapdoor Springfield for about half of your planned budget. I know you said no originals but hey, it's real it's history, and you can still shoot it. What's not to like? They are fun to shoot and mild smokeless loads can be made for them. I use a 350 grain bullet and 3031 powder. For liability reasons I won't divulge the exact recipe. That's what reloading manuals are for.

Help me pick my next rifle

I'd go with a browning 1886 or a Marlin 1895 in a cowboy model. I would also recommend a Shiloh sharps but it's not in your budget

I had a Quigley in 45-70 I am looking for a new one in whatever caliber I come across. The High-wall rifles are pretty sweet as well.

Is Pedersoli good quality? Can I order a rifle with a crescent-style butt?

Pedersoli is #1 for replica rifles with Uberti being a very close second.
