    Straight Bolt Action

Besides Heym and Blaser, who makes this type of rifle? I really am intrigued by the simplicity but halted by the prices of the above mentioned brands...
    Any ideas?

I've never seen a straight bolt action rifle that was an improvement over the Swiss K31.

Along with those mentioned, there are:

          M95 Steyr
          M96 Mauser
          Ross Rifle
          M1895 Lee Rifle
          Luck favors the prepared.

I have not seen a straight pull Mauser 96 before.
The ones I have worked on were all traditional 90 degree rotary bolts.

Didn't last long on the market but it's actually alright. It's a modern rifle and not at all related to the M96 Swede. No idea why they reused the model designation. The bolt looks a lot like an AR10 bolt.

That Merkel Helix is an engineering marvel (to me anyway). Bolt throw is only 2", the bolt doesn't retract from the receiver and the bolt/barrel interface (like an AR) negates the need for a steel receiver making it superlight and makes barrel/caliber changes a one-minute affair.

If I had the money and the need for a hunting rifle.......
