    Jailed my first 308

Hi all, long time listener first time caller.. oh wait wrong board. Anyways just jailed a savage model 11 in 308 at stage stop in Atwater. Was a used gun hopefully the owner doesn't chime in and say it's screwed, total impulse buy got home started googling and came to the conclusion it was a dicks sporting goods savage 11/111, or it's an 11vt. Removable box mag, 24" heavy barrel. Stock looks kind of funky near the barrel area almost like it's bent. Anyways I paid 489 for the rifle and saw yesterday that the 11vt is on sale at dicks with scope for 399 with a rebate. To make a short story long wondering what I should shoot out of this gun. Going to be used for range mostly with an occasional hint. Have a cheap Simmons I'm throwing on it for now with this base

My buddy Is gonna reload some 168 grain match ammo for sight anything else I need I want to try and hit 500+ yards

    Practice.
Might not hurt to but a better quality scope on it.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

      Jailed my first 308

My plans are to eventually put a vortex viper on it when funds allow. I've heard the general rule of thumb is you spend more for optics than the rifle. I'm not new to bolt guns I have hunted (unsuccessfully) sense I was 15, I'm now 26. I don't want to get crazy with it. I have a 6-9 bipod I'm going to throw on it. I will throw pics up when it arrives.
Anyone willing to let me barrow some load data for these bullets?

Picked up the new toy today, had the shop install and boresight. First step was to clean the gun. Ran a brush through it with some hoppes then ran a few patches through it. This thing was FILTHY! My buddy loaded some 168 grain hornady match bullets at 2550 FPS. I was given about 800 rounds of 308 brass. Hopefully sight her in in a few weeks once it dries up

If you were using #9 then you were not really cleaning it.
Looks like I am near you. If you do not load as of yet you are welcome to use my equipment. Also I am up for going to the range if you want to go. I am a member of 2 ranges and need to do some more load testing over my Chrono. I have 2 rifles to set up and test before going back to Africa this year.
Sorry to hear you have not taken any game yet.

As close as I could get it with the optics I have. No rear bag at 108 yards .

Btw hunters valley road was a mess unfortunately we took the jeep so we had no way of removing garbage
