Savege Factory Blue Printed Action... How good is it really?

Savage claims on at least 2 of their rifles (10 BA Stealth, and 12 Long Range Precision) that they are custom blue printed at the factory. Anyone have experience with this or have taken measurements of any kind to see just how good a job they do with this "Factory Blue Printing"? I'm looking into precision rifles and am torn between a Rem 700 and getting it trued up, a Savage and getting it trued, a Savage Factory trued rifle, or spend the big bucks and get a custom action and build. Obviously I would love to go the custom route but at 3-5X the price of the other options, I just don't think it's in the budget at this point and the cost would far outweigh the increase in accuracy.

Not sure about their blue printing, however I have seen some very high scores shot in F-class by guys running stock savages. Not sure how much more consistent accuracy can be derived than shooting high percentages of X's at 1/2 moa way out there. Just food for thought.

      Its hype.
I've got a bartlein on a non trued savage that ''might'' be a tic behind a trued 700 and customs. Its performance can easily be attributed to barrel variance.
Buy what you like best and put a good barrel on it.
I have a friend that has the stealth. It feels no different then my model 12 and I would think the floating bolthead negates how true the factory cuts it. (within reason)

What do you want to do with said rifle? Blueprinting is a bit of a last resort or last step in a process when you need that extra measure of confidence/consistency. Most people don't, and most can't shoot the difference. As stated the barrel is far more important.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Purpose of the rifle as of right now would be long range target for shooting prone and off a bench at the range. Chambering I'm looking at is either 6.5x47 Lapua or 6.5 Creedmoor. Possibly the 6mm versions but leaning toward 6.5. I don't currently compete but it's possible I would like to in the future.

if you plan to shoot PRS/tactical type matches where your going to run the bolt hard and fast pass on the savage.

Factory blueprinting may be something as simple as picking parts that fall exactly in the middle of the specs. or tighest fitting ie: receiver at smallest spec and bolt at largest.

If Savage has the ABILITY to make all the parts square and concentric on their receivers and bolts, why don't they do it already on all of them?
That must mean they make a conscious decision, and then offer the "option" by selling a more expensive model that was made right...

Part picking is the far more likely answer.

I agree with Randall. My interpretation of Savage in this regard is: Hey snapperhead, pay us more money and we'll do it like it should have been done in the first place.

Wouldn't it be same difference as Remington 700 and Remington 40? Does Savage have a custom shop?

I don't know if they do but that's what I was thinking. There are some bad 40x actions out there but there are some exceptional ones.

You could say about virtually any weapon. And if what you say is has merit, if what you are insinuating is true, there wouldn't be any need for gunsmiths to accurize Remingtons, or any other make but Savage for that matter. Surely you agree that all mass produced rifles, not just Savage can be improved by further machining and detail, right ?
