I wanted to update the thread and thank EVERYONE who chimed in and gave advice.

After some soul searching I went with the DNZ Mount the Leupold VX1 2-7x33. I found the Leupold for $189 shipped from B&H Photo online in NY. Mount from Amazon.

Tomorrow (Thurs 2/2) I pick it up and hopefully if the weather is nice this weekend I'll take it out shooting at Metcalf.

Thanks again for all the suggestions and help.

Mine has 2-7 x 33 Leupold VX-1 w LR reticle. Leupold Rifleman mount and Warne rings. The LR gives me extended hold points but not at the same yardages as say a 270.

The issue (for me) is getting the scope far enough forward hence my solution. DNZ looks too far aft for me.

I have yet to mount so we will have to see. If so then an alternate mount may be needed.

The OP asked about placing a scope on his rifle-not a peep.

I just installed a dnz on my Marlin only due to the problem I was having with the ring base bending due to the recoil(45-70 and yes I shoot it a lot!) Before

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Yeah but I bet old Ashley had great vision!

Gonna spend some time this weekend mounting the DNZ base and scope and hopefully take her out for a spin on Sunday before the game.
