    Rossi 92 trigger locked up

Hey guys, I took my son out to the Mojave this morning for some fun, its been a while so we took out the 20" Oct barrel .357 that I bought about 10 months ago. My son took two shots and then no trigger pull at all and the hammer is locked back. I probably have 300 rounds through the gun up to this morning.

I own three 92's and have no problem talking the wood off and doing some add ons and stuff but I haven't tackled taking the action apart.

Got to love Youtube, my problem is I can't take the pressure off the main spring because the hole in the rod is hidden behind the block (guide) on the lower tang

    Any ideas?

Unfortunately you've probably already done this, but just in case...

Have you unloaded the magazine tube by taking off the end screw, and letting out the spring, follower and all unfired rounds? Sometimes this will take enough pressure off of the action to allow it to "free up" again...

If you have done this, have you shined a flashlight down the mag tube to make sure that a round is not stuck down there at the end, partly on the carrier?

Also, does the lever move or is it locked up? (I've been running under the assumption that it is locked up, but I don't see that you said that...)

The gun will cycle ammo ok, its just that the hammer was locked back and the trigger had no play. I've got the hammer and trigger assemble off but I'll be darned if I can get it back together again. I've got the main spring back on the hammer assemble but I'm stumped on how to get it back together (right) even then I'm not sure what the problem was, is..

IIRC the Rossi's have a 1 year warranty...

Other option: Contact Nate Kiowa Jones (Steve's Gunz). steve@stevesgunz.com

I have found that, while he does own a business specializing in these rifles, he also seems to be a really good guy who will answer questions and assist with problems even when he isn't making any money in doing so. The Cowboy way, I guess.

Those rifles are very easy to take apart, too. You may be able to take it down and have a look at what is wrong. I usually feel a smug sense of self satisfaction when I change a lightbulb, so I am not handy at all. And with a couple YouTube videos, I was able to take my Rossi down completely.

Steve at Steve's Gunz is really helpful too. I bought his video on disassembling and slicking up the Rossi 92. Well worth the money.

I agree, very easy to take apart, not so easy to reassemble..

I've gotten it together a couple times but its not right. Its under Buds Guns lifetime warranty but I'd still like to be able to take it down and put it back together since I have 3 of them. And I don't mind sending it to Steve but I'd still like the experience and I'm still not sure why it locked up.

I bought the DVD 3+ years ago, I'm just not sure if its here or I sent it out to somebody. I'm probably looking right at it, sucks getting old.

I've taken mine apart 3 or 4 times now to clear separated cases in the chamber. It is a lot easier to put back together with the trigger and mainspring mounted than separated. You have to hold your mouth just right and say the cuss words in the proper order and then it goes right back together. If you were in my neighborhood and had an hour to kill we could get it back in running order.

I had to stop last night because the grandbabies came over. I've tried every cuss word in every order I can think of.

                        Apparently not!
BTW, from my experience the right combination of Russian and Spanish produces the best results.

I can do it now with only 15 minutes of muttering and slanderous words.

I usually have more trouble getting the lever back in the bolt while retaining the ejector than getting the hammer, trigger, and mainspring back in. You need several different punches to get things lined up as you put the guts back in.

Thanks to all for your help. I don't know why the trigger locked up on this one but I did finally got it back together and the action is working fine. I'd feel comfortable taking one apart again, probably with less cussing too.
