    I've always used a quality 1 piece; my R700 with a Viper HST sits on a Warne 1-piece mount - http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/938...FQe5wAodp8YDHQ

Less parts I figure, the better.

This scope came mounted on rifle when I bought the package at Bass Pro Shops. Was never crazy about those rings that are secured from the side instead of the top either. Probably why I never bothered to remove it before. Shoots great so I never questioned it until now. I want to do it right with the new scope & the 1 piece base seems a better choice.

I use badger one piece on my three Remington 700s.

I use NF 20 MOA steel 1-Piece and steel rings. Badger, Vortex and others are viable as well.

My Sportsman 78 has a POS aluminum 2 piece Weaver style and is rock solid and groups well.

Interesting. I never even thought of a 20moa rail for the Rem 700. I have one on my Ruger Precision Rifle w/ same scope so maybe I should look at those.

Lol, yep. My Bartlein Heavy Palma barreled 700 SA in 6.5 Creedmoor needs it.

What is the distance you will do most of your shooting?

Heavy steel one piece base unless you are going to lug it around in the field all day.

I like the TPS Steel 20 MOA one-piece bases on my Remington 700s.

Any opinions on this Nightforce mount for Rem 700 SA? Has 20 moa cant, direct mount, built in recoil lug, & available in several heights. At just under $200, might be a better option by the time you buy base & then the rings. Anyone using one? Less parts can’t be all bad. Some of these require a #8 torx fastener that would require re-tapping from a #6. Need to double check on that.

My personal preference is a picatinny. Far more options when it comes to adjustments. I would say even if you need to save for a bit, buy the base and rings as separate units. But, that is what works for my needs.

                          What I use:

Quick question- Some of these rails include 8-32 screws. Remington uses 6-32 & when I read the specs, it says must be drilled & tapped to 8-32. Do I need a gunsmith for this? Or, can I do it on my bench? I build hot rods so I have the USA made taps, numbered drills & cutting oil. The end screw I pulled goes all the way into breech so a bottom tap is not needed. I’m assuming the other 3 run all the way through & aren’t blind. Is a fixture needed or should I look for one that uses the 6-32 screws?

If you feel comfortable doing it without messing it up. Yea you can do it yourself.
