Question about RPR...

been swamped lately and finally getting back into shooting. went on a date night with wifey to local bass pro and saw the Ruger Precision Rifle 308. i'm a sucker for single bolt action but wasn't never too attracted to the AR15 setup. but this... this... felt so good in my hands.

got the green light from wifey so now doing research.

i wanted to get the 6.5 creedmoor, but since ammo is expensive.. 308 would be better choice. but after seeing this thread: http://bit.ly/2hC6uDg looks like the barrels are interchangeable.

so should i get the 308 first and get the barrels later on? any stupid laws about banning barrels too that i need to be aware of?

i dont have one but my brother swears by his RPR. great rifle from everything i have seen.

Match ammo for both are the same price.

6 one way, half a dozen the other.

Now, yes you can buy cheap bulk .308 ammo, but thats not what you want to run through a precision rifle.

drool... let me look up all those mega threads.

just called Bass Pro and they are out of the 308 now. but i don't think the new Jan law applies to single bolt with pistol grip, so i should be in the clear to get this baby next year?

You need at least 16" and cannot rebarrel to 50 BMG in CA (of course the RPR is too small to house a 50 action).

I think I had one of the first 6.5 creedmoor RPR in CA. Sold it to a guy in FL that made me an offer on it I couldn't refuse. I rebarreled it to a 6 dasher and that thing was a tack driver with that cartridge. I got it to mag feed in the new Magpul AI mags. I got mine for $1200 OTD (PPT) with ~50 rounds on it.

Bottomline OP, get one if you can find one. Probably the best out-of-the-box precision/tactical rifle right now for the price. And...easy to re-barrel yourself later on.

btw.. i noticed the 308 or 6.5 from the Ruger site has the model with muzzle break. can we get the ones with muzzle break in CA? i would think that mean the end is threaded?

also anyone know where in the bay area has the best prices for the RPR? thanks!
