I'm ready to give up on Remington completely. I've fired at least 600 rounds and this problem is still coming up. Closing the bolt is extremely difficult and when I check the spent casing there is gouge in the case rim. I was advised that this will fix itself with a break in. At what round count is it broken in? How to I fix this new extractor, a trip back to remington I just got the rifle back from trigger recall and their work invoice says they resolved issue with extraction. I'm ready to just sell it and move on to better manufactures.

Rem 700 Extraction issue
Escaped California 10/12/19Tags: None -
What caliber is this? Some .223 (Three or four years ago) were famous for this and it was a machine error in the bolt. The only correct fix for this was a bolt replacement. Other calibers all it may need is a new extractor. Easy fix.Last edited by Hateca; 12-09-2016, 5:44 PM.sigpic

Try this: remove the bolt from the action, put a case in the bolt face under the extractor, now hold the bolt release and put the bullet/bolt into the action and close the bolt.
There should be no to little resistance - if there is it could be an ammo or chamber issue.
If you have difficulty placing the bullet in the face/under the extractor then it's likely the extractor is the issue and should be replaced.
Remmy's "clip" extractors, when installed correctly, do a good job and it maintains the "three rings of steel" that using a Sako or Mini16 eliminates.

This a bolt issue and unless they replaced the bolt they didn't fix a thing.
The problem is the non magnum Remington extractor is a floating extractor that has flex built into it.
The extractor sets in a grove in the bolt head. They failed to machine the grove in the bolt head deep enough for the extractor to compress or spring over the case.
To check and see if your extractor has any flex take a punch or small screwdriver and press in, sideways, on the extractor claw. If there is no movement or compression you have a bad bolt.
This can sometimes be band aid fixed by removing a little metal from the extractor claw. You could have someone that knows what they are doing machine the extractor grove slightly deeper to allow the extractor to work correctly. Bottom line unless you do something you will continue to put a grove into your cases.Last edited by Hateca; 12-09-2016, 11:01 PM.sigpic
