Advice for a starter to building/customizing bolt actions

Honestly don't buy or build anything. If you don't plan on competing and you don't know "what you want" then you are just trying to satisfy a "I wanna buy a new toy!" feeling. That's fine, you are an adult and can spend your money how you like but you'll regret it later because it will end up as a safe queen. Wait for the circumstance to dictate the rifle, then build that rifle.

Unfortunately I think you are 100% right. Unfortunately it has never stopped me before. This is the last category i dont have an i will obsess until i have it.

It has a pretty good chance of getting used though i shoot and reload pretty frequently

It's pretty good. Solid top makes a stiff action and it's really slick comparable to Tikka.

Well why don't you find a competition (casual) that you enjoy and then buy that rifle?

I used to compete. I have a 10 month old. Id say i have a year and a hakf until i can commit to anything

If you already have a rifle you can rebarrel it, if the bolt face is similar in size. I hooked up 3 guys with some sweet builds, 2K was their budgets. You just need a Tikka, buy used because you are just buying it for the action. In our case we built 3 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, so they bought used .308 Tikka.

Buy a barrel blank

Buy the KRG X ray chassis

May guy will spin it up and you will have a tack driver rifle that you can hunt with and or do competitions

The barrel blank (before gunsmithing) is $900.
Looks like a Defiance action so another $1300 there.
Now a $500 stock.
Now lets put a $500 into other small parts like the muzzle brake, trigger, bottom metal and mag.
Now lets put $600-$800 into gunsmithing to put it together, bed it and paint it.

Yes they are but there's not a heavy barreled 6.5x55.

Yeah i contacted legacy sports. Not the nicest people on the planet. They do not have a 6.5x55 heavy barrel and do not plan to make one. Who knows. I'll shoot what i have for awhile and go from there.

Im sure i can learn how to shoot out of this rifle but in my mind it feels like it will quickly become a limiting factor.

It's not going cheap, it's just going full out too end on everything.

Trued Remington action and bottom metal from PT&G $800

Krieger Barrel Blank $350

B&C stock with adjustable comb $400

Then see whoever smith you want would charge to put it altogether. It would be hell of a better shooter than any factory gun.

PM and you can talk to my guy and see if he has a reamer in the Swede you want to shoot. Then you just buy a barrel blank and he will hook you up. Best price around, trust me
