Yes, that is a beautiful Weatherby, but it looks like it belongs in a permanent display case in a gilded room. I'd not store that in the safe with everything else.

I love maple stocks. I guess they never were very popular, but they used to be more prevalent back in the day. Browning was selling some maple stocked guns, not of the same wood grade, but I don't think they sold well for them. CDNN was blowing some of them out recently. That's a sure sign that the product line is dead.

OP, good luck on the auction. They certainly don't make them like they used to. There aren't that many people out there that can do inlays and carvings of that quality, and they charge for it accordingly.

I just wish it didn't have the inlay on the rear stock. The figuring of that wood is spectacular, and would look better without the inlay in my opinion.

Everything deserves to be shot: gilded, rusted, shiny or matte.

Funny, I like all the wood and inlay, but the floor plate is a turn off... well and that awful gold sling swivel!

That's a beautiful rifle, except I prefer a darker finish. Regardless, that's a beautiful rifle.

The Weatherby rifles had the sexiest stocks around and people simply liked them or hated them.
Mine is the darker walnut stock and what really makes them standout is the double slope on the forend at 45 degrees.
If you look at a Browning the stock is cut vertically and the cap is round.
It's the racey lines that set them apart.
