    AI, DD, Nightforce: Photo Pron

Went to an event held by Nightforce, AI, DD, and Black Hills where I got to finger f__k some cool toys, and burn some ammo under the instruction of Bryan Morgan and Terry Cross.

That 16" AI is in 308 and we were able to hit an IPSC silhouette at 1k with it. That DD5 recoil is more harsh (much lighter gun), but as long as I did my part, 800yds was not a problem. Great guns, optics, and ammo can cover up my shortfalls.

    Enjoy the photos.

You really lucked out. CORE is becoming the premier facility in the US and Terry Cross is the godfather of practical precision rifle.

Looks like fun. Which bipod and mount worked best, most practical and if any, which are not so good?

I'm actually mainly a service rifle shooter, so PRS is a new world to me. I was more into the scopes and rifles than anything else. So take the following for what it is worth.

I like the Atlas for its ability to pan. And I can level the gun without mucking with the feet. The slight play in the Atlas feet didn't bother me. On concrete with the Harris, I notice the gun would jump to the right (southpaw) if I'm not directly behind it. Atlas didn't show this probably because the little play allowed the rifle to rock into my shoulder.

When I was shooting off uneven surface with the DD5, I noticed the Atlas kept allowing the gun to cant under recoil. It was tensioned to the point where I would need a bit of muscle to adjust cant, so I'm pretty sure it was adjusted good. Recoil on gas gun is more than the bolt guns, and I didn't notice this on the AI guns.

All the instructors were super nice and helpful.

I think Terry is doing a class at SacValley next year Sept/Oct which will cover 1k, positional, and moving targets.

Ok, thanks for that info. Gives me something to consider.
I will mostly/only use bipod for range use. Currently I just throw my range bag on bench to support rifle.

                  This is a good thing.
It shows you that you were NOT behind the rifle properly.

The lack of that with the atlas lets you get lazy and use poor shooting form.

Sorry I wasn't sure what you meant by above-- did AI .308 bolt gun recoil more than gas guns you used?? Thanks

No. DD5 had more felt recoil than the AIs. Not surprised because AX308 is 14lbs and DD5 is 8lbs, and the AX were suppressed.

The DD5 recoil felt like a sharp impulse, much like the AX300WM. Funny enough, the 338 Lapua felt more like a shove and more pleasant than the 300WM. It got to the point that whenever the setup called for a gas gun, I reached for the suppressed MK12 (I believe Saker 556). Very little blow back.
