    Stock Replacement Suggestions?

    Hi Guys

Just getting back from hunting trip in Idaho and the wood stock split on me. Haven't ever had something like this happen. It cracked from the base of the bolt back toward the pad, about 6" or so. Maybe a 1/16" - 1/8" crack. It was real wet, snow and rain every day. The gun still operates ( I did harvest a deer after the split ) but I gotta get it fixed.

The gun is a late 70's Remington 700 BDL 7mm mag. It was my fathers so I do have some sentimental attachment to it, however Im not trying to spend a lot to replace the stock.

I just googled - Remington 700 replacement stock, and was surprised to see the options. I also was a little disappointed the the Remington website didn't pop up so I could buy directly from them.

Y'all have any suggestions ? After 10 min of research I found McMillian is the best? But probably out of my budget. Looking for a simple ( well built ) wood or synthetic stock .

    THANKS

Maybe one more suggestion. I'd take the stock off, make sure it dried out, and inject West Systems fiberglass resin into the crack and clamp it. The end result would probably be stronger than a new one... IMHO

I love wood stocks as much as anyone but in your situation I would seriously consider one of the factory synthetics with the spider web finish. You can get them for less money than that wood stock and they won't break until you fall and land on them.
