    savage 10fcp-sr

is this any good...seems to have some mostly good reviews. How Would you compare this to a remington 700 sps varmint? just going to be bench and blm type shooting with friends. I do plan on replacing the stock to a KRG 180-alpha when funds are available

I'll take a SPS Varmint over that. Savages aren't known for the quality.

With the Remington you'll be able to upgrade until your heart is content.

You for sure have an advantage there. If Remington made the Varmint in .260 or 6.5 Creedmoor, they would do much better.

Doesn't say much for the Remington either

That FCP-SR is the greatest deal!
All you need is a decent scope, rings, bipod, brake, and a one of those kydex cheek risers...and you're set!

Let me rephrase my statement. Savage's are more prone to issues than Remington's. Neither of them are without issue though. The fact is any gun in the $500-$600 range will be improved with aftermarket upgrades.

The people who think Remington's are worse because they need upgrades are crazy. A Savage, Tikka, or Ruger all get better with upgrades. You might as well start with a base that can be upgraded easily.

I think this gun has a 1:10 twist. For 6.5 Creedmoor, I would look for something with 1:8.

                      The 1:10 your talking about is the .308...the 6.5 is a 1:8

The only "upgrade" this gun needs is a $30 kydex cheek rest. But that goes for 90% of rifles cuz they don't have the ability to properly get youre face in line with the scope, otherwise.
Barrel is already threaded. Throw on a $13 muzzle brake.
Spend the $ you save by NOT building a Remington 700 project on the scope and rings and an extra mag.

I have 2 of the 308 versionso one for my son one for me . The rifles are more accurate than me . Remington mutual have more up grades but the savage I don't think needs them I just put a nice scope bipod and a brake it really didn't need it but for the price of the rifle u can't go wrong that's my 2 cents

                              I'm not a 6.5 guy but that's my business .... I'd say get it
