Anyone own a Tikka t3 ctr?

I was reading about these rifles, and with my new interest in owning a "tactical" bolt gun chambered in .308 without breaking the bank too bad, this rifle may fit the bill. This might be a silly question, but are they available in California? Can they be ordered? I was looking at this or the Savage 10 fpc sr. The tikka seems a little nicer.

    Thoughts?

Not a CTR owner but I do own twoT3's. They are nice rifles. Mags are on the expensive side and there is plenty of aftermarket crap if you want to Gucci your rifle up. Both of my rifles were sub moa out of the box.

I checked with my local gun shop on getting a Tikka T3 with a tactical or varmint barrel , I was told that Tikka's with heavy barrels other than .223 Rem or 22.250 Rem are not be allowed to be sold in the USA. If you want to get a Tikka in whatever barrel you want, you probably will need to purchase a sporting barrel Tikka and have it sent out for barrel replacement. I understand that lots of people are doing that because Tikka actions are more robust than Remington 700's and silky smooth. I have a Tikka T-3 Lite in .308 with a sporting barrel, its my premier hunting rifle, love that smooth action.
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I have one. Nice blaster, but as stated earlier the mags are expensive...

Call around the LGS. I picked up a CTR 308 earlier in the year and used Gallery of Guns... picked the cheapest LGS from the list and got it pretty fast.

I've had a CTR in .260 Rem for a while.

The stock is probably adequate for many shooters, but I found it lacking. It is a nice injection molded stock, but I'm probably not going to be satisfied with any injection molded stock in this lifetime.

I wound up dropping the barreled action into an MDT LSS chassis with an XLR Extreme buttstock. It looks like an expensive proposition until you sell the original stock and the Platinum Mag that comes with it! Guys will pay for those mothers. Overall, not unreasonable after you sell the original stock and mag. There are more alternatives for stocks available now than there were when I bought mine.

The MDT chassis has the additional advantage of using AICS type mags, which are cheaper and easier to get than the Beretta Divine Relic $200 mags.

Function is perfect with the MDT chassis. The XLR butt stock has enough adjustment to get the fit as close to perfect as I can figure out. If I were doing it now, I would purchase one of the lighter weight XLR butt stocks, but it is not a big deal.

The rifle comes with a solid rail and a fine trigger, that will satisfy the vast majority of users. It adjusts easily and cleanly to about 3 pounds, and it might go lower but I had no need to find out.

The gun shoots handloads well under an inch using the starting/minimum charge of H4350 and 130 grain Sierra Game Kings. I expect to get at least close to 1/2" with some load development, maybe better.

The muzzle threads make getting a brake more complicated, if memory serves. Mine is not light after getting properly pimped out, although that isn't necessary.

A .308 with a 20" barrel would probably be a little loud and exhibit a little more recoil than I want, but you may not mind it. I believe these rifles are available in 6.5 Creedmoor now, and that may be the more popular cartridge down the road. As a zealous handloader, I am very happy with .260 Rem, as brass is plentiful from Lapua and several cheaper manufacturers.

Good gun. Reasonable price. If you could live with the stock and one mag, a very good price.

Remember, the overwhelming majority of anti-gun thinkers are not stupid enough to be "afraid of guns." They are afraid of stupid/immature/crazy psycho people with guns.

I picked up a Tikka T3 Tactical (.308) from CSTactical in Elk Grove about a year and a half ago for $1,390 OTD. I have been very happy with it.

Java, the way you put that, without clarity, it appears to be total BS. Do you mean Tikka won't allow them or some other "force" will not allow the heavy barrel rifles to be sold here ? What are you talking about ??

                      Which shop ??

Also, can you provide any credible evidence a Tikka action is more "robust" than a Remington ? Which action Remington ? What are you talking about ???

Tikka actions are 0.150" smaller in cross section and use a 1/16" smaller barrel shank diameter with a similar diameter bolt body so a statement that they are more robust is mechanically false.

All I can tell you that when I looked into purchasing a Tikka T-3X in 6.5 Creedmore at The Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton, CA., the lady that was helping me was told by her sources that import restrictions did not allow for the T-3X to be sold within the USA for the exception of the .223 and 22-250, I took her word for it and instead went on to customize an old Remington 700. If you guys are saying that the above info is bogus by The Outdoor Sportsman, perhaps I will check somewhere else.

Comparing a Tikka action to a Remington, Tikka actions appear to have more metal in the action body and in the right places which would make them more stiff. The Tikka T-3 definitely has a better extractor than the Remington 700 and it has a smoother action. I like the Remington 700 and that is what I used in the Army in the form of the M-24. When I was in a gun shop looking for a hunting rifle 3 years ago as a back up to the Winchester M70 in 30.06, I was asked to look at the Tikka T-3, I was so impressed with the butter smooth action and hammer forged barrel, I bought one in .308 Win. Since then its become my primary hunting and it prints sub MOA groups at 100 yards. Can't ask for anything else.
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I too was really interested in these rifles. They can be found on the web-r-nets for just under a grand. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I looked into a couple spare mags to purchase before I bought the rifle. $150 for a mag? Not gonna happen.
