Bought a Remington 700 .308 today

I got a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308. Grab a gun has them for $561 and there is a $75 rebate from the factory.

I opted not to spend the money on a 5r because when I'm ready, I'll rebarrel in 6.5 CM.

I have a Bell & Carlson A5 stock floating around and I think I'm going to steal a Vortex PST 4-16 off of one of my ARs untill I can afford some quality glass for it. I'm leaning towards SWFA SS 5-20 HD. I also have a bottom metal floating around with 5 and 10 round mags although it's not super high quality, and a spare Harris bipod.

I guess all I really need is a scope base and rings.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I'll post some pics when it's done.

TPS Base is a copy of a Badger or Badger is a copy of TPS. The TPS rings are good if you read the directions. THey are not installed like "conventional" rings.

Good choice I have a Rem 700 sps tactical aac-sd with jp muzzle brake and I love the rifle. I thought about the 5r but not for me at this time.

Found a local guy that will do $65 for him, $25 for the state. I'm going to call a couple other places tomorrow.

Ken Farrel makes steel bases in 0,10,15,20 and 30 moa for the Remington 700 short action.
And the rings with the inserts work great and don't bend the scopes main tube.

Jewell makes them as well.

Nice grab, you'll enjoy the rifle immensely. I have a Rem 700 Police 308 and love it, just did my first round of zeroing it in earlier today. So far it's "dead on balls accurate." It's an industry term.

Warne rings and bases are top notch and not that much $$ I shoot at the national level and that is all I use.

The top caps of the rings go on only one way. One side of the ring halves touch the bottom half of the ring the other side has a gap. Unlike other rings where you want even gaps between the ring caps and bottom half.

Guys don't read instructions and assume TPS rings install like all others and run into problems.

Where are you shopping? Badgers go for $150 or less. I paid $117 for my Badger for my Savage about a year ago.
